0 G O ( ; .0 P"6E <br />The Board considered a request from the Sheriffs Office to renovate the <br />basement area at the new courthouse to accommodate their office. Captain James Estes <br />told the Board that the Sheriffs Department is in need of additional office space. He <br />stated that three (3) Civil Officers and one (1) Child Support Enforcement Officer are <br />currently using one office. The two (2) Target Team officers have no office space and <br />sometimes work out of their county vehicles. Mr. Estes also stated that an "evidence <br />room" was needed to store items recovered for court cases. Public Works Director <br />Kenny Cole submitted an estimate for renovation to the un-finished area at the new <br />courthouse at a cost of $46,885.00 with all labor supplied by Public Works staff. After <br />much discussion, Chairman Hincks moved to approve the request to renovate part of the <br />un-finished area at the new courthouse for the Sheriffs Department. Upon a vote, the <br />results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Hincks, Lemmond, Matthews, Paschal, and Stevens <br />Nay: Reives <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted by a six to one vote. <br />Commissioner Reives stated that without further study of the proposed plan he <br />could not support the motion. <br />The Board considered bids for the new high school sewer project. Public Works <br />Director Kenny Cole told the Board that he had received the following bids: <br />Contract 1 Contract 2 <br />Blue Construction, Sanford <br />$596,834.18 <br />Billings & Garrett, Raleigh <br />5236,538.75 <br />Sandhills Contractors, SM. <br />627,02036 <br />Sandhills Contractors, Std. <br />248,965.50 <br />H.B. West, Smithfield <br />691,591.58 <br />Chris Rider, Holly Springs <br />251,265.00 <br />Billings & Garrett, Raleigh <br />818,656.97 <br />Water & Waste Systems, Ral. <br />256,574.85 <br />Atkinson Infrastructure, Vass <br />1,026,952.50 <br />Eberhart Construction, Fuquay <br />282,422.70 <br />J.W. Cook & Sons. Whiteville <br />304,735.20 <br />Laughlin-Sutton, Greensboro <br />306,600.00 <br />Mr. Cole told the Board that the sewer project should be complete in April 2005 and <br />cover approximately 600 acres. After some discussion, Commissioner Stevens moved to <br />approve bids from Blue Construction ($596,834.18) for gravity sewer and force main <br />work and Billings & Garrett ($236,538.75) for the sewer lift station. Upon a vote, the <br />results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Hincks, Lemmond, Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and Stevens <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />The Board considered matters pertaining to the Health Department. I-leatth <br />Director Mike Hanes asked that the Board allow him to enter into an agreement with the <br />Community Arts Center for office space for three (3) Health Educators effective <br />3 <br />
