Matthews, Paschal, Reives, and Stevens <br />Nay: None <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />Note: Commissioner Lemmond abstained from voting on items he held a <br />personal interest in. <br />Cooperative Extension Agent Don Nicholson, along with representatives from the <br />Future Farmers of America and 4-H Club, talked about the upcoming Farm-City Week <br />and banquet that will be held Monday, November 22, 2004. <br />The Board considered a request from the Sanford National Guard Family Support <br />Group. Sonya Blalock representing Thomas Johnson, asked that the Board exempt <br />seventy-seven (77) Lee County soldiers that are currently stationed in Iraq from paying <br />county taxes. County Attorney K. R. Hoyle explained to the Board and Ms. Blalock that <br />per General Statute the Board of Commissioners cannot exempt military personnel from <br />paying taxes. General Statute No. 105-330.4 allows the extension of deadline for <br />payment of property taxes for deployed military personnel by allowing a ninety (90) day <br />extension. North Carolina General Statute No. 105-307 allows a ninety (90) day <br />extension for listing property for taxation purposes for deployed soldiers. <br />
