Chairman Hincks recessed the meeting until 7:00 p.m. <br />At 7:00 p.m., Chairman Hincks called the meeting back to order for the purpose <br />of conducting public hearings on the following matters: <br />• FY 2004-05 Budget <br />• Abolishment of the Cumnock Water System <br />• FY 2004-05 Water & Sewer District Budget <br />Commissioner's Jerry Lemmond and Bert Matthews were absent. <br />Chairman Hincks opened the first public hearing to hear comments concerning <br />the FY 2004-05 Budget. The following individuals spoke and asked that the County not <br />raise taxes this year: <br />Richard Littiken, 314 Rhynewood Drive, Sanford <br />Bruce Ledford, 140 Dublin Road, Sanford <br />Chairman Hincks opened the second public hearing that involved abolishing the <br />Cumnock Water System. County Manager William Cowan told the Board that all debts <br />have been retired and the Lee County Water & Sewer District has received all assets. No <br />one present spoke in favor or against abolishing the Cumnock Water System. <br />Commissioner Reives moved that Lee County abolish the Cumnock Water System. <br />Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Adams, Hincks, Paschal, Reives, and Stevens <br />Nay: None <br />Absent: Lemmond and Matthews <br />The Chairman ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />Commissioner Lemmond joined the meeting at this time. <br />Chairman Hincks opened the third and final advertised public hearing for the FY <br />2004-05 Water & Sewer District Budget. No one present spoke in favor or against the <br />proposed budget that will operate at the same manner this year as last year. County <br />Manager William Cowan stated that no rate increase was proposed unless the City of <br />Sanford increases their rates. <br />Chairman Hincks closed the public hearings. <br />With no further business to come before the Board, Chairman Hincks recessed the <br />meeting until 10:00 a.m., Monday. June 28, 2004. The meeting will be held in the <br />Gordon Wicker Conference Room at the Lee County Government Center. <br />7 <br />
