County Manager's Report — January 17, 2017
Ongoing Projects
San Lee Park — Work continues to progress on the new nature center. Progress has
slowed due to the recent weather. The concrete floor has been poured and is completed.
Framing of the building has started. The main steel support system has been completed.
The County continues to work on the new sewer line. Currently, the County has received
bids on the sewer line. Staff expects to present the bids to the Commissioners at the
February 6 meeting of the Board. This project is still tracking towards completion in May
2017. We are also working with the contractor of the metal storage building to prepare
that site as well. Due to the weather, the storage facility work has been delayed. We
expect this project to be finished in March or April.
Old Bowling Alley — Demolition was completed two weeks ago and the contractor is
putting up the new walls, etc. in the building. Work will be completed in less than 60 days.
The State will need to review the work before any moving can take place.
OT Sloan Pool — Per the request at our last meeting in November, we are reviewing
options to enclose the lap pool during the non -summer months. We are targeting the
Commissioners Board Retreat to give a full report on a capital plan for the pool.
Colon Road Water — The RFQ for engineering proposals was completed with assistance
from the City of Sanford. We have sent out the RFQ to engineering firms who have
expressed interest in doing business with Lee County and also advertised and posted the
RFQ on our web page. We hope to be ready to recommend an engineer to the
Commissioners at the February 6 meeting.
Willing Hands Filter Project - The Willing Hands group has installed water filter systems
at all of the homes in the Colon area whose water tested at elevated levels for vanadium
and hexavalent chromium. The total funds left from the project is $1,673.03.
Other Items
Hurricane Matthew Update — Attached please find a report from FEMA on the Hurricane
Matthew aftermath. The deadline for applying for assistance has passed. FEMA
continues to keep us informed of the progress they are making in the recovery from this
storm. In Lee County, we have not had any reports of problems with the cleanup.
Emergency Management has been attending meetings on a regular basis. They report
that FEMA's response has been excellent.
