13
2017 Candidates for the Wood mere-Trentwood Board of Directors
Bill Elliott
I was born and raised in Hudson, Michigan, a small rural community of southeastern lower Michigan.
Chronologically, after high school I attended Ferris State College (AA), Michigan State University, United States Air
Force (air traffic controller), Arizona State University (BS Zoology), University of Arizona College of Medicine (Doctor
of Medicine), Saginaw Co-operative Hospitals, Inc. (Residency for Family Medicine).
I owned a private medical practice in Hudson, MI (my hometown) for eight years. After this I practiced emergency
medicine until December 2015. During this time I attended Tulane University (Master of Medical Management).
During my career I have had the privilege to serve in many leadership positions. These include the County Medical
Society, Hospital Medical Staff leadership and Hospital Board of Trustees. Professionally, I have held various Emergency
Department Medical Directorships and as a Regional Vice President for Medical Affairs for a large emergency medicine
staffing organization.
Penny and I have been married for seventeen years. We have lived in Wooster, OH, Blackshear, GA, Ponte Vedra Beach,
FL, Mansfield, OH and currently Carolina Trace.
Pau/ Perks
My first visit to Carolina Trace was in November 2014 stay with close friends Bob & Pat Davis who I have known for
over 40 years. I was immediately pleased to meet the friends here they introduced me to and also enjoyed the fine golf
courses. I returned again in February 2015 and again in April 2015 and both times Bob & Pat urged me to move here. To
appease them I contacted a realtor to look at some homes and walking into the second one I saw I thought I had died and
gone to heaven, it was perfect for me. I moved in in September last year and have loved every minute of being here and of
course the community and people are amazing. Hopefully my six children who are spread out from California to Brooklyn
and New Jersey will continue to visit and my friends here will have the opportunity of meeting them.
I grew up in London, England and left to work my way around the world for 5 years and I'm pleased to say this is my last
stop on the tour and I'm not returning to the Mother Country. Professionally, I worked in Bermuda for 15 years in the
Insurance industry and transferred with my firm to New York where I continued my profession serving large
multinational corporations with all their insurance needs. This gave me the opportunity to travel the world ensuring their
needs were met globally. I made many visits to London, Munich and Switzerland to place major insurance renewals as
well as working closely with all the major Insurance Companies in the U.S. In addition to placing renewals I also helped
in the settlement of major claims, the largest property claim being a fire in a high rise office building in Downtown L.A.
which settled for around $78 million, several pharmaceutical claims running into the billions of dollars and similar
asbestos related liability suits who's numbers were a little mind boggling.
Thank you for your consideration to elect me to the Board and I look forward to serving in whichever capacity you deem
appropriate..
Louise Spofford
In December of 2003 I retired from the Board of Cooperative Educational Services, School Support Service, in Albany,
New York. My husband, Todd, retired the year previous and we purchased a house in Hidden Lake. This became our
permanent residence when we moved to Carolina Trace in 2004. After an extensive remodel we settled into life in Trace
and became North Carolinians. I was appointed and then elected Chair of the Hidden Lake Architectural Committee for
five years and then three years as the BOD Secretary. In Carolina Trace I have served on the Women's Golf Association
Board, The CTCC House Committee before and after the fire and was Vice President of Trace Trekkers.
In August of last year we moved to Woodmere-Trentwood where I am currently on the C.A.R.E. Committee. Outside of
Trace I was on the Board of Temple Theatre and I am active in our church, St. Thomas Episcopal. I serve on the Alter
Guild, Outreach Committee, am past -president of The Women Of The Church and was a member of our Search
Committee.
We feel very happy to be a part of this wonderful neighborhood. While being fiscally conservative I look forward to the
future here and its continued growth.
Enclosure #1
