039
I have taken the liberty of sending a statewide email to all Register's
requesting input. Of the sixty-five (65) counties that responded,
twenty-six (26) have early recording cut-off times. Many have had cut-
off times for ten years (10) years or longer. See the attached
responding counties.
I was given several good pieces of advice from other Registers.
1) Seek approval from your County Commissioners to solidify the
decision.
2) Do not accept documents to hold overnight
3) The cut-off time must be absolute. No exceptions.
The marriage license cut-off time of 4:30PM is already in place and has
been in effect since 2004.
The office of the Register of Deeds will remain open until S:OOPM daily
to the public for obtaining certified copies of births, death and
marriages, phone calls and questions of any kind. This request is to
establish a recording cut-off time of 4:30PM only for legal documents.
If approved, we will notify the public/attorneys by posting signs in our
office, placing notices in attorney's mail boxes and placing a statement
on our website. If approved in October 2016, these notices will go up
immediately stating the new recording cut-off time will become
effective January 1, 2017.
Thank you for your time and consideration.
Pamela G.
