BK -00028 PG -0343 <br />LEE COUNTY <br />Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow <br />Proclamation <br />Designating <br />July as Parks and Recreation Month <br />WHEREAS, parks, greenways, and open space provide a welcome respite from our fast - <br />paced, high-tech lifestyles while protecting and preserving our natural environment; and, <br />WHEREAS, parks, nature trails, open spaces, community and cultural centers, historic sites <br />and playgrounds make a community an attractive and desirable place to live, work, play, and <br />visit, and contribute to our economic vitality; and, <br />WHEREAS, these facilities contribute to our efforts to improve the quality of life in North <br />Carolina and in our community by preserving open space and promoting an appreciation of our <br />state's natural resources; and, <br />WHEREAS, parks, recreation activities and leisure experiences provide opportunities for <br />young people to live, grow, and develop into contributing members of society; and, <br />WHEREAS, parks and recreation create lifelines and opportunities to continue life experiences <br />for older members of our community; and, <br />WHEREAS, parks and recreation agencies provide outlets for physical activities, socialization, <br />and stress -reducing experiences, and contribute to a sense of community; and, <br />WHEREAS, parks and recreation agencies touch the lives of individuals, families, groups, and <br />the entire community with positive impacts upon the social, economic, health and <br />environmental quality of our community. <br />NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Lee County Board of Commissioners <br />proclaim July as Parks and Recreation Month and encourage all citizens to celebrate by <br />participating in their choice of pleasurable activities to find refreshment in their leisure. <br />Adopted this 20th day of June 2016. <br />F-11 <br />to the Board <br />Amy M.
