8K:00028 PG -0266
tax base in the county. They have the oldest fleet in service currently. The reduction of
$14,000 from the current budget and the potential loss of tax base is only going to add to
the financial strain the Deep River Fire Department is facing.
Lemon Springs Fire Department — Station 7
Lemon Springs Fire Department's budget request for FY 16/17 reflects a slight increase
of 13235. The increase in funding was from the cost of health benefits for the paid staff
and increase in debt service. The fire district had growth of $7,131,200 in the tax base.
Lemon Springs Fire Department has the heaviest call volume in the county. The
department recently purchased a new pumper to replace a 1985 model. The plans are to
have the new truck in service within the next few weeks. Lemon Springs Fire Department
does a really good job in being active in the community. They serve one of the largest
districts in the county. The Fire Advisory Board is always impressed with Chief Cagle
and members of the Lemon Springs Fire Department. They work really hard to achieve
high standards of service to the community while making every effort to minimize the
cost of fire service to the citizens. The fire tax rate for the Lemon Springs Fire District
will remain at its current rate of $0.096 for fiscal year 2016 - 2017. The Fire Advisory
Board recommends the funding request for Lemon Springs Fire Department.
Northview Fire Department — Station 6
Northview Fire Department's budget request shows no increase for 2016 - 2017. The
Northview Fire District saw some positive growth in the tax base this year. The projected
tax base for 2016 - 2017 grew by $11,892,000 to a total tax base of $573,189,500. The
increase in tax base helped to offset the loss of $18,000 in the fund balance. The
projected tax rate for 2016 - 2017 was going to be $0.088. However, in our meeting with
Chief Campbell, the Northview Board of Directors had instructed him to make cuts
required to keep the tax rate from increasing. In order to maintain the current tax rate, the
department will need to cut $4,750 from the budget. The Fire Advisory Board
recommends the budget request for Northview with the changes requested by the
department.
4
