• <br /> C.�2 4, t . 8 .. -•r rye i-�. �. , <br /> COUNTY OF LEE <br /> STATE OF NORTH CAROLINA <br /> NOTICE OF SPECIAL LOCAL TAX ELECTION <br /> Notice is hereby given that a special election will be held <br /> in the territory hereinafter described on Saturday the llth day of <br /> May, 1957, pursuant to the provisions of Art. 14, Subchapter 5 of <br /> Chapter 115 of the General Statutes of North Carolina, for the <br /> purpose of ascertaining the will of the voters within said area as <br /> to whether or not there shall be levied and collected annually, <br /> within said territory, a special tax not to exceed thirty cents <br /> (30¢) on the $100 valuation of all taxable properties, real and <br /> personal, for the purpose of supplementing the current expense <br /> funds from the State and County allotments and thereby operate <br /> ' schools on a higher standard by supplementing any item of expendi- <br /> Iture in the current expense school budget. <br /> The administrative unit or school area upon which the <br /> I proposed. supplementary tax will be levied is the Lee County Schools <br /> Administrative Unit and embraces all of that territory lying within <br /> the boundaries of Lee County which is not included in the Sanford <br /> City Schools Administrative Unit, said Sanford City Schools Adminis <br /> trative Unit being made up of the Sanford Graded School District <br /> and the Jonesboro Graded School District. <br /> The description of the area embraced in the Lee County <br /> School► Administrative Unit, by metes and bounds, in which said <br /> special election is to be held, is as follows: <br /> BEGINNING at upper Little River on Harnett County Line, <br /> thence in a.northwesterly direction, following upper Little River <br /> to the Seaboard Air Line crossing, thence with the western boundary <br /> of the following..farms: Talmadge Wicker, C. B. Martindale, Willie <br /> T. Cox, Jesse Woffard, J. . R. Woffard, A. J. Pierce, H. A. Palmer <br /> Estate, thence in an easterly. direction to Persimmon Creek, thence <br /> I down Persimmon Creek to Buffalo Church cemetery, thence with <br /> southern boundary of cemetery to Worthy's Pond Road, thence along <br /> Worthy's Pond Road to Jensen Road, thence up Jensen Road to Sea- <br /> board Air Line Railroad crossing, thence up Seaboard Air Line <br /> Railroad to Vestal property, thence with eastern boundary to a <br /> stone as corner of Murphy and Cox property, thence to W. A. Monroe <br /> property line, thence with said line to 13th Street, 120 feet <br /> south of the Southern edge of Lee Avenue, thence parallel with Lee <br /> Avenue in a westerly direction.. to Makepeace Street extended, <br /> thence straight line southwesterly. direction to southern end of <br /> Ashe Street at a branch, then down branch to the Gurley line, <br /> thence with the Gurley line north to his corner, thence with his <br /> line northeast to Fayetteville Street at the southwestern corner of <br /> the Makepeace Lumber Company, thence with Makepeace line north- <br /> westerly to his corner, thence northeasterly with his line and <br /> continuing same course to Moore Street on the Southern Railroad <br /> right of way, thence with Moore Street to Pearl Street, thence with <br /> Pearl Street, west with the Seaboard Air Line Railway, thence <br /> direct tothe corner of the Moffitt property on the western edge of <br /> Steele Street, and running with the Moffitt Brothers' northern <br /> boundary to their northwest corner, thence northwest line to inter- <br /> section of Gulf and Wicker Streets, thence down Wicker Street to <br /> intersection of Vance Street, thence down Wicker .Street to Dry <br /> Creek, then west to McIver and Hatch corner, thence with McIver and <br /> Hatch line to their corner, thence following the J. M. Wicker line <br /> east and south to Wicker's corner near the old stone quarry, thence <br /> westerly to Big Buffalo Creek, thence down Buffalo to U. S. Highway <br /> #1, thence with it to Persimmon Creek Bridge on U. S. #1, thence <br />
