•
•
The Chairman thereupon ruled that the resolution was adopted.
Bryant Johnson presented a road petition requesting the addition to the
highway system and the paving of a road in East Sanford Township running
from Woodland Avenue South-west on Makepeace Street to Hall Street and
down Hall Street to Rose Street, also Martin Street from Makepeace Street
to Pine Street and Southwest on Pine Street for two-thirds of a block. On
motion of Commissioner Cheshire, which motion was seconded by
Commissioner Winstead, this petition was unanimously adopted and ordered
forwarded to the Highway Commissioner's office.
W. W. Seymour, local attorney, advised the Board that on October 26, 1942
the County of Lee had executed a deed to O. P. Makepeace, the intent of
said deed being to convey 25 acres of land located in Pocket Township, which
was formerly the property of J. A. Alston. He further pointed out that said
deed was incorrect in that it actually conveyed 40 acres of land in Deep
River Township, said description being erroneously in that said deed
incorrectly refered to lands described in Deed Book 15 at Page 167, whereas,
said description should have referred to lands described in mortgage Book
15 at Page 167. Upon verification of such facts by the attorney, on motion
of Commissioner Cheshire, which motion was seconded by Commissioner
Atkins, the Board unanimously authorized the Chairman and Clerk to execute
a correction deed to the said O. P. Makepeace.
There followed a discussion of the practice of many counties of closing
county offices on Saturday during the summer months. This question was
discussed in detail by the Board and the Chairman pointed out that he had
requested each office to determine the number of persons coming to that
office on Saturday for the transaction of business. The figures gathered at
the request of the Chairman were presented and discussed. Thereafter, on
motion of Commissioner Winstead, which was seconded by Commissioner
Kelly, •it was unanimously resolved that during the month of June, 1957 all
offices in the courthouse were authorized to be closed and all employees
Etat/ authorized to be off duty on Saturday mornings. Chairman Measamer then
. " presented the following letter received from J. J. Lentz, Secretary to the
Lee County Board of Education.
Sanford, N. C.
May 6, 1957
Lee County Board of Commissioners
Sanford
North Carolina
Dear Sirs:
The Lee County Board of Education, in regular session, on motion properly
presented and approved, hereby requests the Lee County Board of
Commissioners to convey to the Lee County Board of Education the property
known as the Lee County Home property, which surrounds the present
County School Garage property on the left of the pumping station road and
extending from the R.
