• <br /> On motion of Commissioner Atkins, which motion was seconded i� <br /> Commissioner Winstead, the appointment of M. W. Harriss, Jr., £S a <br /> member of the Lee County Library Board to fill the unexpired term of Mrs. <br /> Hobert Wicker was unanimously confirmed. <br /> Hugh Talley, County Sanitary Officer, reported upon his activities for the <br /> month of April, 1957. Mr. Talley also presented the report of the County <br /> Health Department for the month of April, 1957. <br /> Commissioner J. M. Cheshire together with the other members of the <br /> Board was present for the afternoon session of the Board, at which time the <br /> 'fcllowing business was transacted; <br /> J. A. Farrell, County Forest Ranger, appeared before the Board with <br /> ' District Supervisor Moehler and presented the proposed budget for forestry <br /> and fire control for the fiscal year 1957-58. <br /> Mrs. Clifford Tracy, Supt of Public Welfare, presented report of'the Welfare <br /> Department for the month of April. <br /> Mrs. Harry T. Johnson presented a road petition requesting that a road <br /> leading from Lawrence Street to a dead end, the same being known as Stroud <br /> Avenue, be added to the system and improved. On motion of Commissioner <br /> Kelly, seconded by Commissioner Atkins, the road petition was unanimously <br /> adopted and ordered forwarded to the Commissioner's Office. <br /> Dr. David Garvin, District Health Officer, presented budget proposal for <br /> the Lee County Health Department for the fiscal year 1957-58. <br /> W. D. Gregson, Veteran's Service Officer, reported on the activities of his <br /> office for the month of April. <br /> Mr. T. A. Early, Inspector of Correctional Institutions for the State Dept. <br /> of Public Welfare and Mr. M. F. Page of the Architectural firm of J. L. <br /> Williams and Company, appeared before the Board to discuss plans for <br /> building a new jail or improving the present jail facilities. This matter was <br /> discussed at length but no formal action was taken by the Board. <br /> W. H. Campbell, County Tax Collector, reported upon the tax collections <br /> for the month of April. <br /> H. M. Jackson, former County Tax Attorney, appeared at the request of <br /> the Board to report upon the status of all tax foreclosure suits now in progress. <br /> Mr. Jackson was requested by the Board to file all tax foreclosure papers in <br /> the Office of the Clerk of Superior Court. <br /> Commissioner Kelly introduced and moved the adoption of the following <br /> petition, to-wit; <br /> BE IT RESOLVED that there is hereby appropriated from the unappropriatec <br /> General Funds of Lee County the sum of $6, 537. 89 for the purchase of <br /> equipment for the Lee County Library; <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Auditor is hereby authorized <br /> empowered and directed to issue voucher for said sum of $6, 537. 89 for the <br /> purchase of equipment for the Lee County- Library and to deliver the same to <br /> the Lee County Library Board. <br /> The motion for the adoption of the above resolution was seconded by <br /> Commissioner Atkins'and members of the Board voted upon the same as <br /> follows; <br /> Kelly - aye <br /> Winstead - aye <br /> Cheshire - pass <br /> Atkins - aye <br /> Measamer - aye <br />
