M. with <br /> the following members of the Board present for dispatch of business. <br /> Commissioners Percy Measamer, J. M. Cheshire, Clyde J. Atkins, <br /> Sion H. Kelly and Evander C. Winstead. <br /> Chairman Percy Measamer presided and the following business was <br /> transacted. <br /> The meeting was opened with prayer by the Rev. W. J. Wrenn, Assistant <br /> Pastor of the First Presbyterian Church. <br /> Minutes of the Regular Meeting of May 6, 1957, and minutes of the <br /> Special Meetinglof May 13, 1957, May 15, 1957, and May 27, 1957 were read <br /> and approved. <br /> Miss Monica Brown, County Home Demonstration Agent made monthly <br /> report of the activities of her office. <br /> K. S. Harmon, County Agent, made monthly report of the activities of <br /> his office. <br /> D. F. Holder, Sheriff, presented monthly report of the activities of <br /> the Sheriff's Department. <br /> Mrs. Louise Dowdy presented the monthly report of the activities of <br /> the County Health Department. <br /> Mr. Hal S. Thomas of Broadway requested the Board to petition the <br /> State Highway and Public Works Commission to slope the sides of a gravel pit <br /> in back of his residence in Broadway on land adjoining the Kelly Mill Road j <br /> so that a tractor may be used in cultivating the adjacent property. He also <br /> Q requested that the State Highway and Public Works Commission be petition to <br /> put in culverts on the road adjacent to that property. After full discussion of <br /> the question ak the Attorney was instructed to transmit the request to the Highway <br /> 1 Commissioner at his office in A b!en..]Mr. Hugh Talley, County Sanitar;A^/e, <br /> Alai upon the activities of his office. <br /> Mr. J. A. Pippin, District Forester, North Carolina Forest Service, <br /> presented revised budget request for Lee County Forest Fire Control for the <br /> fiscal year 1957-58. No action was taken on this request pending consideration <br /> of all budget request of other agencies and departments of the County. <br /> Mrs. Clifford Tracy, Supt. of Public Welfare, presented the report of <br /> the Welfare Department for the month of May. She also presented the Budget <br /> request for the Welfare Department for the fiscal year 1957-58. <br /> Mrs. Tracy presented Mrs. Edith Park and stated to the Board that Mrs. <br /> Park had been appointed acting Supt. of Public Welfare of Lee County as she, <br /> Mrs. Tracy, had been granted a leave of absence for further study. <br /> There being no further business to come before the Board the meeting was <br /> adjourned. <br /> Chairman <br /> •-- Sct-s eL.at y A <br />
