Miss Edith Park, acting Supt. of Public Welfare, presented the report of the activities of the Welfare Department for the month of August. On motion of Commissioner Atkins, which motion was seconded by • Commissioner Winstead, a road petition submitted by Rassie Johnson requesting that a road located in West Sanford Township, running from Lawrence Street to a dead end, known as Stroud Avenue, be worked up and paved, was unanimously adopted, and ordered forwarded to T. G. Poindexter, Division Engineer at his Office in Aberdeen. On motion of Commissioner Cheshire, which motion was seconded by Commissioner Kelly, a road petition submitted by John A. Cotton, was unanimously adopted. This petition requested that a road in West Salford Township, running from U. S. No. 1 to a dead end known as the Old Coal Mine Road, be widen and improved. The Clerk to the Board was instructed to forward this petition to T. G. Poindexter, Division Engineer, at his Office in Aberdeen. Fire Chief, J. O. Bridges and Alderman H. H. Brewer came before the Board at the afternoon session to request that the County assist the City in the purchase of a new fire truck. No formal action was taken on this • request, but the Chairman advised Mr. Bridges and.Mr. Brewer to meet with the County Attorney to draw up the necessary agreement so that County . funds might be expended for this purpose. They were informed that after this was done the question would be considered at a later meeting of the Board. Minutes of the regular meeting of August 5, 1957, and minutes of i,n ,( � the Special Adjourned Meeting of August 7, 1957, were read and approved. l A The County Attorney then presented the Board with.a letter f �o3n Mr. J. G. fn.r . awa rds,wards, Attorney, requesting that his resignation as County/ 'Attorney be Txcepted. On motion of Commissioner Kelly, which motion Was seconded by Commissioner Atkins, the resignation of Mr. Edwards was unanimously accepted. On motion of Commissioner Atkins, which motion was seconded by Commissioner Kelly, Mr. J. Allen Harrington, was unanimously appointed as Lee County Tax Attorney. W. H. Campbell, County Tax Collector, presented a report of the activities of his office. Mr. Campbell then presented a list of persons who owed taxes to the County and asked that he be granted relief for cause set forth by him. On motion of Commissioner Kelly, the Board unanimously granted relief to the Lee County Tax Collector for the following named persons, in the amount and for the causes as set forth below, to-wit: NAME AMOUNT CAUSE FOR RELIEF James H.
