Miss Edith Park, acting Supt. of Public Welfare, presented the <br /> report of the activities of the Welfare Department for the month of August. <br /> On motion of Commissioner Atkins, which motion was seconded by • <br /> Commissioner Winstead, a road petition submitted by Rassie Johnson <br /> requesting that a road located in West Sanford Township, running from <br /> Lawrence Street to a dead end, known as Stroud Avenue, be worked up and <br /> paved, was unanimously adopted, and ordered forwarded to T. G. Poindexter, <br /> Division Engineer at his Office in Aberdeen. <br /> On motion of Commissioner Cheshire, which motion was seconded <br /> by Commissioner Kelly, a road petition submitted by John A. Cotton, was <br /> unanimously adopted. This petition requested that a road in West Salford <br /> Township, running from U. S. No. 1 to a dead end known as the Old Coal <br /> Mine Road, be widen and improved. The Clerk to the Board was instructed <br /> to forward this petition to T. G. Poindexter, Division Engineer, at his <br /> Office in Aberdeen. <br /> Fire Chief, J. O. Bridges and Alderman H. H. Brewer came before <br /> the Board at the afternoon session to request that the County assist the City <br /> in the purchase of a new fire truck. No formal action was taken on this <br /> • request, but the Chairman advised Mr. Bridges and.Mr. Brewer to meet <br /> with the County Attorney to draw up the necessary agreement so that County <br /> . funds might be expended for this purpose. They were informed that after <br /> this was done the question would be considered at a later meeting of the <br /> Board. <br /> Minutes of the regular meeting of August 5, 1957, and minutes of i,n ,( � the Special Adjourned Meeting of August 7, 1957, were read and approved. <br /> l A The County Attorney then presented the Board with.a letter f �o3n Mr. J. On motion of Commissioner Kelly, which motion Was seconded by <br /> Commissioner Atkins, the resignation of Mr. Edwards was unanimously <br /> accepted. <br /> On motion of Commissioner Atkins, which motion was seconded by <br /> Commissioner Kelly, Mr. J. Allen Harrington, was unanimously appointed <br /> as Lee County Tax Attorney. <br /> W. H. Campbell, County Tax Collector, presented a report of the <br /> activities of his office. Mr. Campbell then presented a list of persons who <br /> owed taxes to the County and asked that he be granted relief for cause set <br /> forth by him. On motion of Commissioner Kelly, the Board unanimously <br /> granted relief to the Lee County Tax Collector for the following named <br /> persons, in the amount and for the causes as set forth below, to-wit: <br /> NAME AMOUNT CAUSE FOR RELIEF <br /> James H.
