Celt bt....:5;12"); <br /> MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br /> OF THE <br /> BOARD OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br /> _October 7, 1957 <br /> • <br /> The Board of Commissioners of Lee County met in regular monthly <br /> session in the Commissioners' room at- the courthouse on Monday, <br /> October 7, 1957, at 10:00 o'clock A.M. , with the following members of <br /> the Board present for dispatch of business: <br /> Commissioners Evander C. Winstead, Clyde J. Atkins, Percy <br /> Measamer, Sion H. Kelly and J. M. Cheshire <br /> Chairman Percy Measamer presided and the following business was <br /> transacted. • <br /> W. D. Gregson, Veterans Service Officer, presented monthly <br /> report of the activities of his office. <br /> The Board then discussed in general terms the question of con- <br /> tributing with the City of Sanford toward the purchase of a fire truck. <br /> The discussion was principally concerned with the type and kind of truck <br /> which would be purchased if an agreement was entered into with the City <br /> of Sanford for the purchase of said truck. No formal action was taken <br /> on this matter. <br /> Minutes of the regular meeting of September 3 , 1957, and minutes <br /> of the special meeting of September 30 , _1957, were read and approved. <br /> Miss Monica Brown, County Home Demonstration Agent, presented a <br /> report on her activities for the month ofSeptember, 1957. <br /> K. S. Harmon, County Farm Agent, presented a report of the <br /> activities of his office for the month of September, 1957. <br /> J. J. Lentz, Superintendent of County Schools and J. B. Cameron, <br /> Chairman of -Lee County Board of Education, came before the Board and <br /> requested that they be deeded a part of the County Home property so <br /> that the same could be used for the purpose of carrying on FFA projects <br /> in the County Schools. No formal action was taken pending a ..con- <br /> ference with the city school authorities. <br /> Mr. E. P. Clark, caretaker of the courthouse, reported on the <br /> condition of all County owned buildings. <br /> J. R. Ingram, Vice Chairman and Harvey Faulk, member of the <br /> Sanford City Board of Education, and J. B. Lipscomb, agriculture <br /> teacher for the Sanford Central High School, came before the Board to <br /> request that it be leased a part of the County Home property for the <br /> purpose of carrying out agricultural projects. There then followed a <br /> general discussion of the needs of the city schools and of the county <br /> schools with respect to lands on which to carry out projects under the <br /> vocational agricultural projects. Commissioner then moved <br /> that the property owned by the County on the north side of the pumping <br /> station road and south of the County school garage be leased to the <br /> Lee County Board of Education for a period of 20 years at a yearly <br /> rental of $1.00 per year. This motion was seconded by CommissioneE Kelly <br /> and the same was unanimously adopted by the Board with the proviso that <br /> the lease contain a provision that the property be used for useful <br /> purposes and projects and that the projects be kept up. <br /> Supaglo p t "G!A'rd'Faw .!folI448: <br /> -$0320- <br />
