0 <br /> "WHEREAS, it appears that the Federal Bureau of Roads in developing a <br /> Federal System of Super Highways has under consideration the location of the <br /> route of a Federal Super Highway from the Ohio-West Virginia area to North <br /> Carolina; and whereas, the development of better highways from North Carolina's <br /> two seaports to the Piedmont section of North Carolina is a most important <br /> part of this plain; and whereas, the closer this Federal Super Highway comes <br /> to the Central or Eastern Sections of our State the faster will development come <br /> to the State as aldhole and particularly to Lee County and the area immediately <br /> adjacent to it; and whereas, the industrial development of our State is much <br /> dependent on the plaiuiing to provide a suitable net work of roads from the South- <br /> east to the Northwest Section of our state; and whereas, it has been proposed <br /> that a Federal Super Highway be routed from Cincinnati, Ohio to Wilmington <br /> and/or Morehead City, North Carolina via Blue Field, West Virginia, Mount <br /> Airy, Winston-Salem, High Point, Siler City, Sanford and Fayetteville, North <br /> Carolina; <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, be it resolved by the Board of Commissioners of Lee <br /> County, North Carolina, that the Federal Bureau of Roads and the North Carolina <br /> State Highway and Public Works Commission be urged to approve and designate <br /> a Federal Int 7 egional Super Highway from Wilmington, North Carolina through <br /> Sanford and Greensboro and on Northwestwardly to Cincinnati .or other mid-west <br /> points to the end that North Carolina's Natural Port Facilities will be linked <br /> with the great coal fields of West Virginia and with the rich agricultural section <br /> of the Mid-west. " <br /> The motion for the adoption of the foregoing resolution was seconded by <br /> Commissioner Kelly and the same was adopted by unanimous vote of the Board. <br /> Mr. E. M. Underwood, Clerk of Superior Court, advised the Board that the <br /> auditing firm which annually audit the books of his office have not completed <br /> its work and requested that he be granted an extension of time until the first <br /> Monday in January, 1958 in which to file his annual audit. Commissioner Winstead <br /> then moved that the time for filing the annual audit of the Clerk of Superior <br /> Court be extended to the first Monday in January, 1958 due to the fact that the <br /> auditing firm doing the audit had not atas completed the same. This motion was <br /> seconded by Commissioner Atkins and the same was unanimously adopted. <br />
