Lentz, Secretary to the Lee County Board of Education and Supt. <br /> of County Schools, came before the Board and presented a floor plan for <br /> an addition or a new building at the W. B. Wicker School, which building or <br /> ' addition.would provide for eight additional class rooms, a boiler room and <br /> toilet facilities. He then discussed the school construction plan in detail. <br /> Thereafter Commissioner Kelly moved that the County Board of Education <br /> be authorized and directed to have detailed plans and specifications drawn <br /> and to ask for bids on the new construction. This m•tion was seconded by <br /> Commissioner Atkins and the same was adopted by unanimous vote of the <br /> Board. <br /> Mrs. Laura B. Rosser, Acting Supt. of Public Welfare, presented the <br /> 0 <br /> monthly report of the Welfare Department for the month of December, 1957. r R'' <br /> D. F. Holder, Sheriff, presented monthly report of the activities of the <br /> Sheriff's Department. <br /> W. H. Campbell, County Tax Collector, presented monthly report of the <br /> collections of his office for the month of December, 1957. <br /> r <br /> The Board then discussed with Mrs. Rosser various names on the public <br /> welfare rolls of the County. After full discussion of the Welfare program, <br /> , <br /> the Board instructed the Clerk to write Mrs. Finnie Rowell that she could <br /> not get further aid of any kind from the Welfare Department unless and until <br /> she signed an instrument giving the County a tax lien on her property. <br /> J. B. O'Brien, Register of Deeds, came before the Board to request that <br /> he be_granted additional compensation for his duties as Register of Deeds. <br /> Mr. O'Brien pointed out that the expenses of operating the office had greatly <br /> increased, but that the increase in receipts had not been sufficient to offset <br /> the increased cost of operating the office. He pointed out that his net <br /> compensation for operating the office during the year 1957 was grseelVe1ow <br /> the standard of s-daries for Registers of Deeds throughout the State. After <br /> full discussion of this matter; Commissioner Cheshire moved the adoption of <br /> the following resolution: <br /> Be it resolved that the Register of Deeds be paid each month, beginning <br /> with the month of January, 1957, fr��/om the unappropriated monies in the general <br /> fund of the County, compensation equal to the amount collected by the Clerk of <br /> Superior Court for his fees in probating chattel mortgages, chattel contracts, <br />
