7 <br /> L. L. Beckham, Director of Civil Defense, gave a report on the Civil <br /> Defense program. <br /> T. P. Watson, City Manager, W.. R. Williams, W. M. Womble and W. B. <br /> Williams came before the Board to request that the steps on the south side of <br /> the Court House Annex at the Old Library Rbom be removed so that Cole <br /> Street could be widened for traffic. It was also suggested that the door at said <br /> steps be permanently closed. ' Upon motion of Commissioner Winstead, seconded <br /> by Commissioner Kelly, the Board unanimously authorized the City of Sanford <br /> to remove the steps on the South side of the Court House Annex, when and if <br /> Cole Street is widened by the City of Sanford. <br /> K. S. Harmon, County Farm Agent, presented monthly report of the <br /> activities of his office. <br /> Mr. Harmon again requested that an Assistant County Agent be hired by <br /> the County. H. C. Faulk, President of Lee County Farm Bureau, Robert <br /> Dalrymple, S. Vernon Stevens, and Everette Dawkins, spoke in favor of the <br /> proposal to hire an Assistant County Agent. Commissioner Kelly then moved <br /> that the County Agent be authorized to hire an Assistant County Agent, which <br /> motion was seconded by Commissioner Atkins. The vote on the motion was <br /> as follows: <br /> Kelly - aye <br /> Winstead - pass <br /> Cheshire - present <br /> Atkins - aye <br /> Measamer - aye <br /> The Chairman decalred the motion adopted. • <br /> Norman Brickhouse, State College Graduate as of June 1, 1958, appeared <br /> before the Board as an applicant for the position of Assistant County Agent. <br /> Commissioner Kelly moved that they employ Mr. Brickhouse as of June Z2, <br /> 1958, which motion was seconded by Commissioner Atkins. The vote on the <br /> motion was as 'follows: ' <br /> • . Atkins -aye <br /> Measamer - aye <br /> Kelly - aye <br /> Commissioners Cheshire and Winstead were not present for the voting. <br />
