S • W. M. Womble, Chairman and Mrs. J. T. Davenport, member of the Lee County Welfare Board, presented the proposed budget for the Lee County Welfare Department for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1959. No formal action was taken and the budget proposal was filed with the Board. K. S. Harmon, County Farm Agent, presented monthly report of the activities of his office. Miss Monica Brown, County Home Demonstration Agent, presented monthly report of the activities of her office. L. L. Beckham, Director of Civil Defense for Lee County and the City of Sanford, discussed and presented his proposed budget request for the fiscal year ending June 30, 1959. No formal action was taken and the budget proposal was filed with the board. Mr. Beckham then presented a proposal which had been submitted by the 'Federals Civil Defense Agency providing for the establishment ofnlocal Fire 9epartrnent,- ,chools,theriff's Department radio net. The advantages of such a radio network were discussed by Mr. Beckham and the Board. Thereafter Commissioner Cheshire moved that the proposal for the • establishment of a local Ore Department-Schools-Sheriff's Department radio net be approved and that the purchase of the:necessary equipment for the establishment of said radio net be authorized, it being understood that the County's share of the cost of said equipment would be in the approximate amount of $2, 179. 15. This motion was seconded by Commissioner Kelly and the same was adopted by the unanimous vote of the Board. Upon motion of Commissioner Kelly, which motion was seconded. by Commissioner Winstead, the County was authorized by the unanimous vote of the Board to contribute the sum of $100. 00 to defray a part of the cost of conducting the Lee County Vehicle Safety Check, Fletcher Rosser, Chairmanp this motion was adopted by the unanimous vote of the Board.
