Commissioner Kelly reported that he had received a request for relief <br /> on the tax valuation of the property of Maxine Johnson in West Sanford Township. <br /> It was pointed out that the abstract indicated sound valuation of the house was <br /> $800. 00, the bar,$150. 00 and the curing barn at $150. 00. It was pointed out <br /> that an investigation disclosed that the house had almost fallen down and that <br /> neither the barn nor the curing barn were still standing. Wherefore, upon <br /> motion of Commissioner Kelly, which:motion was seconded.by Commissioner <br /> Cheshire, it was unanimously resolved that the sound value of the house be <br /> place at $100. 00 and that the barn and curing barn be entirely eliminated from <br /> the abstract. <br /> W. H. Campbell, Tax Collector, reported upon the collection of taxes <br /> for the preceeding month. • <br /> On motion of Commissioner Kelly, which motion was seconded by <br /> Cominissioher Cheshire, the Tax Collector was unanimously authorized to <br /> advertise delinquent tax liens on real property for failure to..pay taxes as <br /> prescribed by law, said advertisement to appear in the Sanford Herald. <br /> Mrs. Laura Rosser, Acting Supt.. of'Public Welfare, reported upon the <br /> activities of the Welfare Department for the preceeding month. <br /> Lewis Brown, County Jailer; requested that jail fees be raised from 75 <br /> to $1. 00 per day. He presented facts and figures indicating .that the jail fees <br /> in Lee County were lower then those in any of the surrounding counties. On <br /> motion of Commissioner Winstead, which motion was seconded by Commissioner <br /> Atkins, it was unanimously resolved that from and after 'July 1, 1958 Lee <br /> County Jail fees be raised from 75 per day to $1. 00 per day. <br /> The County Attorney pointed out that he had been working with Mr. Paul <br /> Grogan, Administrator of the Lee County Hospital in an effort to secure a <br /> reduction in the liability insurance rates for the hospital and that in order to <br /> obtain lower insurance rates, it was necessary for the Board to adopt a resolution <br /> stating that the purchase ', of liability insurance should not be construed as a <br /> waiver of immunity from tort liability.
