• <br /> K. R Hoyle, Attorney for the licensed electric contractors of Lee <br /> County, appeared before the Board with a delegation of the Electrical <br /> Contractors and asked the Board to instruct the County Electrical <br /> Inspector to strictly enforce the North Carolina Electrical Inspection Law. <br /> The Board then instructed the County Electrical Inspector to bring the <br /> provisions of the North Carolina Electrical Inspection Law to the attention <br /> of all persons and firms doing electrical work in_the County and to advise <br /> them that it would be necessary for him to enforce the provisions of the law. <br /> Mr. Robert Dalrymple and Mr. Vernon Stevens appeared before the <br /> Board to ask that a resolution be adopted requesting the U. S. Soil <br /> Conservation Service make a flood control study of the Upper Little River <br /> Water shed. This project was discussed in detail and thereafter Commissioner <br /> Measamer moved the adoption of the following resolution, to-wit: <br /> "RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE U. S. SOIL CONSERVATION SERVICE TO <br /> MAKE A FLOOD CONTROL STUDY OF THE UPPER LITTLE RIVER WATER <br /> SHED. <br /> WHEREAS, the flooding of Upper Little River and it's tributaries adversely <br /> effects the health and well-being of a number of people, and <br /> 'WHEREAS, the flooding results in loss of valuable soil and crops. <br /> NOW, THERFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEE COUNTY BOARD OF <br /> COUNTY COMMISSIONERS that the U. S. Soil Conservation Service be and <br /> it is hereby requested to make the necessary studies of the Upper Little <br /> River Watershed to determine the feasibility of control measures and the <br /> cost of such measures as are found to be necessary. " <br /> • <br /> The motion for the adoption of said resolution was seconded by <br /> Commissioner Atkins and was adopted by the unanimous vote of the Board. <br /> L. L. Beckham, Director of Civil Defense for Lee. County, presented <br /> the Lee County Reception and Care Plan. Mr. Beckham. also reported on all <br /> civil' defense activities and plans. <br /> Bids were opened at 3:00 o'clock for the sale of the Lawrence Davis <br /> lands located in West Sanford Township, Sanford, N. C. The bids submitted <br /> were as follows: <br /> Lacy Oldham - $660. 00 - A. A. Smith - $452. 00 <br /> On motion of Commissioner Winstead, which motion was seconded by <br /> Commissioner Measamer, the bid of Lacy Oldham was accepted and the <br /> County Attorney was instructed to prepare a deed for said lands and to deliver <br /> the same to Lacy Oldham on payment of the purchase price of $660. 00 <br /> Commissioner Winstead moved that the County Physician be placed on a <br /> salary of $125. 00 per month, effective as of January 1, 1959 and that his <br /> services should consist of professional services to be rendered prisoners at <br /> the jail, inmates at the County Home, Juveniles required to be examined by <br /> a physician, said services to be rendered either at the Lee County Hospital, <br /> County Jail or County Home. <br /> This motion was seconded by Commissioner Atkins and was adopted by <br /> the unanimous vote of the Board. <br /> Bids for the laying of floor tile in the Office of the Register of Deeds were <br /> opened by the Chairman, said bids being as follows: <br /> W. Clayton Wicker - $226. 70 <br /> Edwin Campbell - $185. 25 <br /> Johnson and Norris $210. 00 <br />
