I do not favor the hybrid which has a district for canidates with a county wide vote. • I would appieciate it if, you would advise' Me when and where hearings' will be held upon this proposed legislation, as I may want to attend. Campbell, Tax Collector, reported on collections of the County Tax Department for the month of March, 1959. Mrs. Laura B. Rosser, Supt. of Public Welfare, appeared before the Board and gave a detailed report of the activities of the Welfare Department for the preceeding month. Dr. David O. Garvin, District Health Officer, came before the Board and presented a plan to enable the employees of the County Health Dept. to join the North Carolina Local;; Government Employees Retirement System. At the request of Dr. Garvin no formal action was taken by the Board at that time. J. Shelton Wicker, Lee County Representative in the General Assembly, appeared before the Board to discuss matters of pending legislation. Mrs. Nette B. Keith, Register of Deeds, presented a report of the collection of fees by the office of the Register of Deeds for the preceeding month. • By consent of the Board, the Chairman called a public meeting for the hearing on the bill pending before the legislature to districting Lee County for the purpose of electing County Commissioners, said meeting to be held in the Courtroom at the Courthouse at 8:00 o'clock P. M. on Wednesday night, April 15, 1959. • Dr. :J., M. McKinnon, Veterinarian, .was authorized by the Board to set up a dog vaccination program for the County. L. L. Beckham, Director of Civil Defense, presented the monthly report of the activities of the Department•of/Civil Defense. • Commissioner Winstead them moved that the Boarder on record as opposing a bill to 'set-up a uniform system for valuation of property for tax purposes. This motion was seconded by Commissioner Groce and the same was adopted by the unanimous vote of the Board. The Attorney was thereupon instructed to advise Representative Wicker of this motion.
