d •• <br /> SPECIAL ADJOURNED MEETING OF THE BOARD <br /> OF COUNTY COMMISSIONERS <br /> April 15, 1959 <br /> The Board of County Commissioners of Lee County met in special <br /> adjourned session in the Courtroom at the Courthouse on Wednesday <br /> night, April 16, 1959 at 8:00 o'clock P. M. pursuant to motion of <br /> adjournment at the special meeting of April 8, 1959 with the following <br /> members present for dispatch of business: <br /> Commissioners Evander Winstead, Sion H. Kelly, Ralph Groce, <br /> Clyde Atkins and Percy Measamer. <br /> The Chairman announced that the Board was meeting in special � <br /> session to hold a public hearing on proposed local legislation is <br /> tin Lee County to be introduced in the General Assembly. The Countyy <br /> Attorney, William W. Staton, then read and/or explained the following <br /> _bills: <br /> 1. Bill to be entitled an act relating to the amassing of funds to <br /> erect a new jail for Lee County. <br /> 2. A bill entitled an act relating to the operation of loud speakers <br /> in the rural area of Lee County after 11:00 o'clock at night. <br /> 3. A bill entitled.an act relating to the operation of pool rooms on <br /> Sunday in the rural areas of Lee County. <br /> There appeared no opposition to these bills and the Attorney was <br /> instructed to transmit the unanimous recommendation of the Board to <br /> Representative Wicker. . <br /> • <br /> The attorney then read and explained the pertinent provisions of a bill <br /> entitled an act authorizing an election in Lee County upon the question of <br /> districting the County for the nomination of Count Commissioners. The <br /> Board then heard all of those who were present'opposelor in favor of the <br /> bill. After all interested parties had been heard, Commissioner Atkins <br /> then moved that the Board of Commissioners transmit the bill, as written, <br /> to Representative Wicker for introduction in and passage by the General <br /> Assembly of North Carolina. This motion was seconded by Commissioner <br /> Groce and the motion was adopted by a vote of four to one. <br /> Commissioner Winstead then requested that the minutes show that <br /> when those present were asked to vote for or against the proposed bilk9 <br /> lean persons voted against the bill and one person voted for the bill. din motion <br /> fZirk of Commissioner Measamer which motion was seconded by Commissioner <br /> Atkins, it was unanimously resolved by the Board that George B. Chiles <br /> be nominated to fill the unexpired term of T. E. Haigler on the Lee County <br /> Board of Veterans affairs and the Attorney was instructed to transmit said <br /> recommendation to Mr. Collin McKinne, Director of N. C. Veterans <br /> Commission. <br /> There being no further business to come before the Board, the meeting <br /> was adjourned. <br /> Attested: Chairman <br /> Clerk <br />
