H, Upchurch, caretaker at the Health Department Building and Courthouse Annex be relieved of his duties on recommendation of Dr.. E. R. Shanahan, County Health Officer. Dr. Shanahan having certified that in his opinion the physicial condition of Mr. ' Upchurch would not permit him to perform such tasks as cutting grass in the hot sun and,that other moderately strenuous physicial activity would be detrimental to his health. It was further agreed that at the time Mr. Upchurch was relieved of his duties he-would be given two weeks severance pay. Mrs. Laura Rosser, 'Supt. of Public Welfare, presented monthly report of the Welfare Department. • • On motion of Commissioner Winstead, which Motion was seconded by Commissioner Groce, the woad petition submitted.by T. R. Thomas was unanimously adopted. This petition requested that a road in West Sanford Township running from the Cool Springs Road to Wildwood Service Station ON. C. 421 be paved. • L. L. Beckham, Director of Civil Defense, presented his monthly report. Bids for the maintenance and repair of radio equipment of the Sheriff's Department were received as follows: • John Askew, Raleigh, N. C. $35. 00 per month. Grady Fonville, Greensboro, N. C. ---$44. 00 per month Sexton Wall - Durham, N. C. $55. 00 per month. On sync motion of Commissioner Groce, which motion was seconded by Commissioner Winstead, the bid of John Askew of Raleigh in the amount of $35. 00 per month was unanimously accepted,
