No formal action <br /> was taken by the Board. <br /> 1.. L. L. Beckham, Director of Civil Defense, presented his monthly <br /> report. <br /> Mr. J. J. Lentz, Supt. of County'Schools, Mr. Elliott Clark, <br /> personnel Director of Saco-Lowell Shops, •Dr. R. O. Humphrey, Member <br /> of the Lee County Board of Education, H. G. Lee, local manager of <br /> Carolina Power & Light Company, W. R. Williams, Attorney and <br /> Industrialist, Stacy Budd, Member of the Lee County School Board, and <br /> Thomas Adams representing the rc nts of the City of Sanford, appeared <br /> before the Board and spoke in t of a technical or industrial school. <br /> The Board took the request for the appropriation of funds for the con- q <br /> .struction.of_a .technical or industrial school under consideration. No <br /> formal action was taken. <br /> W. H. Campbell, Lee County Tax Collector, presented his <br /> monthly'report. <br /> E. P. Clark, custodian of the courthouse reported upon the condition <br /> of all buildings owned by the County. <br /> • Mrs. Laura D. Rosser; Supt. of Welfare, presented her monthly <br /> report. <br /> The budget estimate as filed for the fiscal year 1960- 1961 was <br /> presented to the Board and discussed item by item. After full consideration <br /> of the various items of the budget, Commissioner Winstead offered and <br /> moved the adoption of the following resolution, to-wit: <br /> Whereas, the Board of Commissioners has considered the various <br /> items for the budget estimate for the fiscal year 1960- 1961; NOW, <br /> THEREFORE, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners of Lee County <br /> that said budgeit estimate for the expenses of the operation of the County <br /> of Lee and its various agencies and departments for the fiscal year 1960- <br /> 1961, BE and the same is hereby tentatively adopted as the budget of Lee <br /> County for said fiscal year; and the tax rate for said County of Lee BE • <br /> and the same is hereby tentatively fixed and established at$1. 45 for each <br /> $100. 00 valuation of the taxable property for the fiscal year 1960- 1961; and <br /> that a special tax of $. 15 on each $100. 00 valuation of taxable property in <br /> the Sanford Graded School District and the Jonesboro Graded School <br /> District for the fiscal year 1960- 1961. <br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that said budget be filed and lie on the <br /> table in the office of the Register of Deeds of Lee County for at least twenty <br /> (20) days for public inspection and that a summary of said budget or .notice <br /> of filing of said budget in the office of Register of Deeds be published in the <br /> Sanford Herald at least 20 days before it is'finally adopted as the budget <br /> for the fiscal year 1960- 1961. <br />
