Beckham, Director of Civil Defense, presented his monthly report. Mr. J. J. Lentz, Supt. of County'Schools, Mr. Elliott Clark, personnel Director of Saco-Lowell Shops, •Dr. R. O. Humphrey, Member of the Lee County Board of Education, H. G. Lee, local manager of Carolina Power & Light Company, W. R. Williams, Attorney and Industrialist, Stacy Budd, Member of the Lee County School Board, and Thomas Adams representing the rc nts of the City of Sanford, appeared before the Board and spoke in t of a technical or industrial school. The Board took the request for the appropriation of funds for the con- q .struction.of_a .technical or industrial school under consideration. No formal action was taken. W. H. Campbell, Lee County Tax Collector, presented his monthly'report. E. P. Clark, custodian of the courthouse reported upon the condition of all buildings owned by the County. • Mrs. Laura D. Rosser; Supt. of Welfare, presented her monthly report. The budget estimate as filed for the fiscal year 1960- 1961 was presented to the Board and discussed item by item. After full consideration of the various items of the budget, Commissioner Winstead offered and moved the adoption of the following resolution, to-wit: Whereas, the Board of Commissioners has considered the various items for the budget estimate for the fiscal year 1960- 1961; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners of Lee County that said budgeit estimate for the expenses of the operation of the County of Lee and its various agencies and departments for the fiscal year 1960- 1961, BE and the same is hereby tentatively adopted as the budget of Lee County for said fiscal year; and the tax rate for said County of Lee BE • and the same is hereby tentatively fixed and established at$1. 45 for each $100. 00 valuation of the taxable property for the fiscal year 1960- 1961; and that a special tax of $. 15 on each $100. 00 valuation of taxable property in the Sanford Graded School District and the Jonesboro Graded School District for the fiscal year 1960- 1961. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that said budget be filed and lie on the table in the office of the Register of Deeds of Lee County for at least twenty (20) days for public inspection and that a summary of said budget or .notice of filing of said budget in the office of Register of Deeds be published in the Sanford Herald at least 20 days before it is'finally adopted as the budget for the fiscal year 1960- 1961.
