Lawrence, of the <br /> , Lawrence Freezer Locker, as requested by,the Board, to discuss the <br /> .proposed construction of refrigeration facilities by the City School • <br /> Board. Mr. McLeod advised the Board that the City School Board had <br /> received bids which,eaceeded sums allocated for that purpose and that . • <br /> the refrigeration facilities had been deferred until further. action. Mr. • <br /> Lawrence advised the Board that the rental for the school milts in the <br /> past year. had totalled approximately $222.00. . <br /> . Captain Roy G. Soviers, Jr. . and Lieutenant Carlos Simmons • <br /> of the N. C. National Guard, appeared before the Commissioners and • <br /> 'advised the Beard that the Armory Commission was favorably inclined <br /> towards a new Armory in Sanford; and that the County,would have to' • <br /> ' provide five acres of land and a maximum contribution of $25,000.00, . <br /> Pert of which could be in land. 'They further advised that If a new facility. <br /> wastonetructed, the.present Armory site would be released for dis <br /> positioarby the Cotualy Conmiissionerra. The Board took the matter under . <br /> .advisement and requested the officers to further investigate the possibility <br /> I and regwireaneats of a new Armory and to report their findings_to the .. <br /> • - Coinmissioners. <br /> Dr. Garvin, the County Health Officer, ,appeared before the Beard <br /> and requested theta-to consider•an addition of 700 square feet of office • <br /> • ,space to the present County Health Center: Commissioner Winstead was" <br /> designated to investigate this request on.behalf of the;Board.' The Board' <br /> requested Dr. Garvin to appear at its April Meeting and•give theme • <br /> report on the operation of the County Dog Pound in Orange County, at that . • <br /> time. • ._ • <br /> Mr•. J: Chandler Eakes, Register of Deeds, appeared before the Board <br /> and gave a.repo±t on'tae activities or hia•office, together with a written list <br /> of recommendations as means to improve the services of,that office. . <br /> ' Mr. :Jamas L. Stewart and Mr. Swaringer of the State Highway Depart- <br /> ' merit,.,appeared in reeponee to the Board's request and advised the Board <br /> that ,Mrs,' Pauline Hooker's road would not meet the State's minimum . <br /> ` - requirements at the present time. V. Fenstamacher appeared before`the Board and advised <br /> • them that he was going to institute a private ambulance service and lamed <br /> the County Cotnntissioners to regulate ambulance service so as to give him <br /> I protection from competition for five years. Commissioners advised Mr. , <br /> I Penstamacher that it was not within their power to do so and therefore his <br /> request would have to be denied. . . <br /> 4tr.
