The <br /> matter was taken under,consideration by the Board.,- - <br /> • Mr. Hurd of the Sanford Herald appeared before the Board soliciting adv- <br /> erasing in respect to the opening of the tobacco Market in Sanford and left <br /> advertising matter for the Board to consider. <br /> Mr. Dela Harries,' Alderman of the City of Sanford, appeared before <br /> the Board and presented a certified copy eta resolution which had been <br /> adopted by the Sanford Board of Aldermen. . The resolution read as follows: <br /> • <br /> • "BE IT RESOLVED that the Board of Aldermen of the City <br /> • of Sanford extend their greets to the Board of County Commissioners • <br /> of the County of Lee and assure them that we are in full sympathy ' <br /> • with them in dealing with the many complex problems of their <br /> . County Government and that we pledge them our full cooperation in <br /> ' solving,these problems in our community and ask chat we be informed <br /> of any,such cooperation that they may feel we can render from time <br /> to time; that we further pledge to the Commissioners the cooperation • <br /> of our officials, employees and the use of our facilities in dealing • <br /> ' with the County problems of finance, law enforcement, education <br /> and the promotion and encouragement of all community projects <br /> • and movements aimed at the betterment and growth of our community; ' <br /> 'that we realize that it is the function of the County Commissioners to <br /> . cause the property of the entire County to be valued and revalued for <br /> • tax purposes and that our City Council is required by law to use the <br /> values fixed by them for tax purposes; we are informed that there may <br /> • benumerous inequalities of property values in the county as corn- <br /> pared with city values; we know the valuation of all the property in' <br /> the City and County equitably and fairly is a difficult and expenseive <br /> • operation but we believe it to be of the highest importance, audit is <br /> especially to our City because more than one-half of the taxable <br /> property of the County lies within the corporate iimitnt our City. • • <br /> • and that this property within the City limits must pay both the- <br /> County tax and also the City tax in addition thereto, hence, we urge <br /> a thorough and complete revaluation of all Coutny and City property at <br /> the earliest possible date so that there may be the utmost of equality <br /> t . ' in tho ever-growing tax burdens of our citizens. We pledge our full <br /> j ' cooperation in solving these problems and invite a like sympathy and <br /> • cooperation on your part in dealing with our City problems. " <br /> Commissioner Winstead moved the adoption of the following resolution: <br /> • BE IT RESOLVED, That the Lee Coutity'Board of . <br /> Comnifssio nera appreciate the desire for cooperation by the ' <br /> Board of Aldermen of the City of Sanford and hereby pledge our <br /> willingneso to cooperate with them in every manner possible on <br /> matters affecting our County and its people relating to the ' <br /> enforcement of the law, 'education, finance, taxation and all matters <br /> • relating to public interest.
