BOOK 6 PAGE 45 <br /> NOW, THEREFORE, the State Highway Commission is <br /> requested to take over said road for maintenance and the addition <br /> of said road and revisions in location deemed necessary by the <br /> State Highway Commission are hereby approved. <br /> The motion was duly seconded and upon a vote it was u animously <br /> carried. <br /> Chairman Atkins announced the resignation of Mr. and Mrs. Shelby <br /> Campbell as Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent of the Lee County <br /> Home to be effective on,1 July 1962._ Their letter of resignation reads as <br /> follows: <br /> "Sanford, North Carolina <br /> May 7, 1962 <br /> Mr. Clyde Atkins, Chairman <br /> Lee County Board of Commissioners <br /> Sanford, North Carolina <br /> . , <br /> Dear Mr. Atkins: <br /> We regret to submit herewith our resignation as Super- <br /> intendent and Assistant Superintendent of Lee County Home. Due <br /> to our health and age, we.feel that it is time for us to retire and <br /> return to the farm home. <br /> We are deeply grateful to the Board of Commissioners and <br /> County Employees for their kindness, consideration and help. <br /> We also appreciate and have enjoyed the fellowship of the <br /> Churches, Civic Organizations, Medical Association, numerous <br /> groups and individuals. <br /> Resignation effective July 1, 1962. <br /> Respectfully submitted, <br /> Shelby and Lizzie Campbell ". <br /> Mr. J. Chandler Bakes, Register of Deeds, appeared before the Board <br /> and gave a report on the activities of his office. <br /> Mrs. Louise Dowdy appeared before the Board and presented a <br /> report on behalf of the Health Department.. <br /> The written report of Mr. Hugh Talley, County Sanitarian, was <br /> presented to the Board. <br /> Paul Lucas, Tax Collector, presented a written report of his collection: <br /> during the month of May. <br /> Mr. T. C. Griffin, appeared before the Board on behalf of the Lee <br /> County Mental Health Association and discussed a request for funds for a <br /> mental health program to.be included in the Budget for the next fiscal year. <br /> The minutes of the REgular Meeting held on 7 May 1962 and the minute: <br /> of the Adjourned Meeting held on 8 May 1962 were read and approved. <br /> Dr. O.
