• BOOK 6 PAGE 59 Mr. Roy Stewart of Lee Paving Company, appeared before the Board and stated that his bid was based on a different matterial from that offered by the State Highway and Public Works Commission and he requested that no action be taken on this matter until he could submit a bid based on sin - ilar materials as offered by the State . No formal action was taken by the Board. Commissioner Winstead joined the meeting and participated in the further deliberations of the Board. Commissioner Atkins read the following request from the Lee County Board of Education: " Sanford, N. C. July 20, 1962 To the Honorable Board of £bmmissioners?-of Lee County: Gentlemen: The Board of Education of Lee County begs to report that it has ascertained the total cost of the addition of ten class rooms to the W. B.Wicker High School, Sanford, N, C, , including the land and all construction costs and that the same amounts to $115,000. 00. The Board of Education respectfully requests that your Board provide the funds for this work, The plans have been drawn and the contracts have been submitted and we are ready to proceed with the work as soon as you have provided the funds. Respectfully submitted. LEE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION By /s/ J. B. Cameron, Chairman /s/ J. J. Lentz, Secretary " Mr. Malcolm McLeod appeared before the Board and spoke in behalf of the respolution passed by the City Board of Education requesting funds. The Resolution of the City Board of Education is as follows: "WHEREAS, the Sanford City Board of Education is of the opinion that existing school facilities in the Sanford City Schools Administrative Unit are not adequate for the maintenance of public schools for nine months school term prescribed by law: Now Therefore, BE IT RESOLVED as follows: (1) The Board of Education of the Sanford City Schools Administrative Unit of the County of Lee has ascertained and hereby determines that it is necessary to provide the following additional,school facitilites in said unit: (1) The erection of a Vocational Education Building for the Sanford Central High School. (2) That it will be necessary to expend for the construction of said Vocational Education Building not less than $150, 000. 00 in addition to other monies which have been made available therefor. (2) The Board of Commissioners of the County of Lee is hereby requested to provide the funds required for such purposes by selling school bonds to raise the required funds.
