• <br /> BOOK 6 PAGE 59 <br /> Mr. Roy Stewart of Lee Paving Company, appeared before the Board <br /> and stated that his bid was based on a different matterial from that <br /> offered by the State Highway and Public Works Commission and he requested <br /> that no action be taken on this matter until he could submit a bid based on sin - <br /> ilar materials as offered by the State . No formal action was taken by the <br /> Board. <br /> Commissioner Winstead joined the meeting and participated in the <br /> further deliberations of the Board. <br /> Commissioner Atkins read the following request from the Lee County <br /> Board of Education: <br /> " Sanford, N. C. <br /> July 20, 1962 <br /> To the Honorable Board of £bmmissioners?-of Lee County: <br /> Gentlemen: <br /> The Board of Education of Lee County begs to report that <br /> it has ascertained the total cost of the addition of ten class rooms <br /> to the W. B.Wicker High School, Sanford, N, C, , including the <br /> land and all construction costs and that the same amounts to <br /> $115,000. 00. <br /> The Board of Education respectfully requests that your <br /> Board provide the funds for this work, The plans have been <br /> drawn and the contracts have been submitted and we are ready <br /> to proceed with the work as soon as you have provided the funds. <br /> Respectfully submitted. <br /> LEE COUNTY BOARD OF EDUCATION <br /> By /s/ J. B. Cameron, Chairman <br /> /s/ J. J. Lentz, Secretary " <br /> Mr. Malcolm McLeod appeared before the Board and spoke in behalf <br /> of the respolution passed by the City Board of Education requesting funds. <br /> The Resolution of the City Board of Education is as follows: <br /> "WHEREAS, the Sanford City Board of Education is of <br /> the opinion that existing school facilities in the Sanford City <br /> Schools Administrative Unit are not adequate for the maintenance <br /> of public schools for nine months school term prescribed by law: <br /> Now Therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED as follows: <br /> (1) The Board of Education of the Sanford City Schools Administrative <br /> Unit of the County of Lee has ascertained and hereby determines that <br /> it is necessary to provide the following additional,school facitilites <br /> in said unit: (1) The erection of a Vocational Education Building <br /> for the Sanford Central High School. (2) That it will be necessary <br /> to expend for the construction of said Vocational Education Building <br /> not less than $150, 000. 00 in addition to other monies which have <br /> been made available therefor. <br /> (2) The Board of Commissioners of the County of Lee is hereby <br /> requested to provide the funds required for such purposes by <br /> selling school bonds to raise the required funds. <br />
