0 <br /> BOOK 6 PACE 68 <br /> Commissioner Cox seconded the motion and it was unanimously <br /> carried. <br /> Commissioner Cox moved the adoption of the following resolution: <br /> "Resolution Honoring Albert Coates <br /> For His Service As Director Of The <br /> Institute of Government <br /> WHEREAS, the Honorable Albert Coates has recently <br /> resigned as Director of the Institute of Government at the <br /> University of North Carolina; and <br /> WHEREAS, Albert Coates, in that capacity, has render- <br /> ed faithful, devoted and outstanding service to the people of Lee <br /> County.and to the State of North Carolina: <br /> NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNTY <br /> COMMISSIONERS OF LEE COUNTY: <br /> The County Commissioners of Lee County, North <br /> Carolina, hereby recognizes the contribution made by Albert <br /> Coates to the people of this County and to the State of North <br /> Carolina and expresses its apprecition and gratitude for his <br /> selfless service as Director of the Institute of Government. <br /> Unanimously adopted at the Regular Meeting held in <br /> Lee County Courthouse, Sanford, North Carolina, on this the <br /> 4th day of September, 1962. <br /> /s/ Clyde J. Winstead " <br /> Commissioner Winstead seconded the motion and upon a vote it was <br /> unanimously carried. <br /> Commissioner Winstead moved the adoption of the following resolution: <br /> BE IT RESOLVED that the sum of $200,00 of the unapprop- <br /> riated surplus of the general fund be expended to promote the Sanford <br /> Tobacco Market. <br /> Commissioner Groce seconded the motion and upon a roll call <br /> vote it was unanimously carried. <br /> Commissioner Sion H. Kelly joined the meeting and participated in <br /> the further deliberations of the Board. <br /> J. Chandler Eakes, Register of-Deeds-appeared before the Board <br /> and gave.a report on the.activities of his office. He was requested to make a <br /> study of fees to report to the commissioners at the next meeting. <br /> Mr. Paul.Lucas, Tax Collector, appeared before the Board and gave <br /> a report on his collections during the month of August. <br /> Mr. W. L., Jewell, Jr. , of W.. L. Jewell and Sons, and Mr. Thomas , <br /> T. Hayes, Jr.', of Hayes, Howell and Associates, appeared before the Board, <br /> as requested, to discuss the progress of the construction of the jail addition. <br />
