BOOK 6 PACE 196 <br /> Mr. Raymond Ledford, Director of Public Welfare, <br /> appeared before the Boardand gave a report on the activities of the Depart- <br /> ` ment of Public Welfare. Mr. Ledford requested that consideration be <br /> given to setting up a small general assistance program to enable his office <br /> to meet emergency requests. Chairman Kelly complimented Mr. Ledford <br /> on the excellent manner in which he is discharging the duties of his office. <br /> Mr. L. L. Beckham, Director of Civil Defense, appeared <br /> before the Board and gave a report on the activities of his department. <br /> The Clerk presented a map of the Sanford Graded School <br /> District which had been received from the County Surveyor. The Clerk <br /> advised the Board that a copy of the map had been forwarded to the Lee <br /> County Board of Education,to the City of Sanford Board of Education , and to <br /> the Tax Supervisor's office, for use in listing property. <br /> There was an extended discussion by the Board about school <br /> finances. <br /> Commissioner Dotterer moved the adoption of the following <br /> resolution: <br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Board of Commissioners <br /> for Lee County, that the Lee County Board of <br /> Education and the City of Sanford Board of Education <br /> are requested to present a joint request for all future <br /> capital expenditures. <br /> Commissioner Atkins seconded the motion and upon a vote it <br /> was carried unanimously. <br /> The written report of the Health Department was presented to <br /> the Board. <br /> The written report of the County Sanitarian was presented to <br /> the Board. <br /> The meeting recessed at twelve o'clock noon for lunch. <br /> The meeting reconvened at two o'clock p. m. with Chairman <br /> Kelly presiding. All of the Commissioners were present. <br /> Commissioner Dotterer moved that jurors be drawn for the <br /> Mixed Term of Superior Court beginning on January 27, and for the Civil <br /> term of Superior Court beginning February 3rd.
