• Mrs. Louise €owdy appeared before the Board and presented the written report of the h'eakh Department and the written report of Mr. Hugh Talley, County Sanitarian. The meeting recessed for lunch at 12:6C) o'clock noon. The-,needng reconvened at 2:20 o'clock p. m. , with Chairman Sion H. Kelly, Comentestonera Clyde J. Atkins and J. T. Ladwell in attendance. Chairman Kelly presided and tile following business was transacted: Commissioner Lettered moved that the bills as tabulated by the County .Accountant, with the eaceptiun of the bill for installation of the air- conditioning system in the Courtroom, be paid. Commissioner Atkins secon- ded the motion and upon a vote was unanimously adopted. coniraissloaer Ledered moved that the Board accept the bid of the Maintenance Supply Co. , Inc. , of Taylorsvtlle, North Carolina, to sells F3oit 16 inch floor baffles machine for $185.00. Commissioner Atkins second- ed the motion and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted. Mr. Buck Coggin of King 1400fing and Manufacturing Company, appeared before the Board at their-requent. Following an examination of the air-conditioning system in the Courtroom and a discussion with Mr. Coggin, Commiialoaer Atkins moved that the work performed under the contract be accepted and the contract price be approved for payment. Commissioner Ledwoft seconded the motion and upon a vote it was unanimously adopted. The minutes for the meetings held on the 6th, 20th, 27th, and 30tb of July were approved and ordered recorded upon motion of Commissioner Ledwell, seconded by Commissioner Atkins, and duly adopted. Upon motion of Commissioner Ledwell, seconded by Commiss- ioner Atkina, and duly adopted, it was resolved to encourage all members of the Board of Commissioners to attend the annual meeting of the NHtionol Association of County Officials. to be held in Washington. I). C. , on August 9-12, and to pay the expenses of those attending -from the appropriation for convention expense. Upon motion of Commissioner Ledsaell, seconded by Commiss- ioner Atkins, and unanimously adopted, it was resolved to advise the Recreation fl mmtaloner. of the City of Sanford to take steps to submit to the people the question of a County wide tax for recreation or the Board of Comn:isalonsrs would be disposed to reject any future requests for funds. The Clerk was directed to contact the! appropriate authorities of;the City of Sanford to find out if they were going to pave Elm Street between McIntosh Street and Cott/nand Drive. The County attorney wee directed to prepare a sample petition for use in rural fire protection districts to request a vote for a district wide tax for Eire protecttonpurposes. Upon motion by Commissioner Atkins, seconded by Commiss- ioner Ledwell,_and duly adopted it was resolved,to authorize.the County Accountant to pay weekly the laborers employed to work at the Coat House.
