BOOK 6 PACE 283 <br /> MINUTES OF SPECIAL MEETING OF BOARD OF <br /> COMMISSIONERS FOR LEE COUNTY, NORTH <br /> CAROLINA <br /> Tuesday, 20th October 1964 <br /> The Board of Commissioners for Lee County, North Carolina, <br /> met in the Commissioner' s room at the Lee County Court House on <br /> Monday, 20th October 1964, at 3:00 o' clock P. M. , the same being <br /> the time, date , and place specified in the notice of the meeting <br /> issued by the Chairman. Those present when the meeting was called <br /> to order were Chairman Sion H. Kelly, Clyde J. Atkins, and J. T. <br /> Ledwell. Commissioners Edward W. Cox and John E. Dotterer were absent. <br /> Chairman Sion H. Kelly presided and the following business <br /> was transacted: <br /> Mr. J. F. Hockaday, Superintendent of Sanford City Board of <br /> Education and Mr. J. Ed Davis, Vice-Chairman of Sanford City Board <br /> of Education, appeared before the Board. Superintendent Hockaday <br /> told the Board the boiler at Junior High School had been found to <br /> be unsafe and had to be replaced. He stated the boiler had been <br /> inspected earlier and based upon this inspection, the Board had <br /> requested funds in the budget for purchase of grates. Although the <br /> grates had been purchased and installed, the boiler had not functioned <br /> properly and another inspection was ordered. When the inspector <br /> reported the boiler to be unsafe and unrepairable, the Board of <br /> Education had three other qualified persons to inspect the boiler. <br /> Everyone has reported the boiler to be unsafe and unrepairable . <br /> The <br /> e Board of Education had conducted a bid letting and needed <br /> 8,945. 20 to let a contract for installing the boiler. <br /> After discussion between the members of both boards, <br /> Commissioner Atkins moved the adoption of the following resolution: <br /> BE IT RESOLVED that the sum of EIGHT THOUSAND NINE <br /> HUNDRED FORTY-FIVE & 20/100 (S8,945.20) DOLLARS is hereby appropriated <br /> from the unencumbered and unappropriated surplus in the General <br /> Fund to the Capital Outlay Fund of the Sanford City Board of Education <br /> for the purpose of purchasing and installing a boiler in the Junior <br /> High School Building. <br /> After further discussion, Commissioner Ledwell seconded the <br /> motion. The motion was duly adopted by a roll call vote as follows: <br /> AYE: Atkins, Ledwell and Kelly <br /> ABSENT: Cox and Dotterer <br /> NO: None <br /> There being no further business to come before the session, <br /> the meeting was adjourned sine die. , <br /> Ai k 2& <br /> Sion H.
