0 <br /> BOOK 6 PACE 305 <br /> Chairman Dotterer left the meeting and Vice Chairman Yow <br /> presided in his absence. <br /> Mr. Thomas M. Haislip, County Extension Chairman, <br /> appeared before the Board and gave a report on the activities of the <br /> Agricultural Extension Department. <br /> Mr. Billy L. Price, Assistant County Extension Agent, <br /> appeared before the Board and gave a report on the 4-H Club activities in <br /> the County. <br /> Miss Mary Estelle Doyle, County Home Economist, appeared <br /> before the Board and gave a report on the activities of her office. ° <br /> Mr. L. L. Beckham, Director of Civil Defense of Sanford <br /> and Lee County, appeared before the Board and gave a report on the activities <br /> of his Department. Director Beckham reported that a seminar will be held <br /> at Sanford in the latter part of February or the early part of March. <br /> Upon motion of Commissioner McLeod, seconded by <br /> Commissioner Kelly, the Board agreed to pay one-half of the costs of the <br /> meal to be served at the seminar or conference, upon a roll call Vote as <br /> follows: <br /> Aye: Kelly, Ledwell, McLeod and Yow <br /> Absent: Dotterer <br /> No: None <br /> Mr. Nathan Crissman, Tax Collector, appeared before the <br /> Board and gave a report on the collections of his office. <br /> During the report, Chairman Dotterer rejoined the meeting <br /> and resumed the chair as the presiding officer. <br /> There was an extended discussion about the uncollected.taxes <br /> and tax liens in the Collectorts office. <br /> There was a discussion about the repairs being made at the <br /> jail as directed by theGrand Jury. <br /> Commissioner Kelly was requested to have an engineer <br /> examine the structure and prepare a report for the Board. <br /> Chairman Dotterer reported that a site for the Mental <br /> Health Clinic was under investigation but he was advised that it had not been <br /> approved by the State Department of Mental Health as yet. <br /> Commissioner Dotterer resigned his position on the <br /> Committee to implement the Economic Opportunity Act and appointed <br /> Commissioner Yow to take his place. Mr. W. B.. Pittman is the other <br /> member on the Committee. <br /> Chairman Dotterer reported that Mr. E. M. Underwood, <br /> Clerk of Superior Court, had requested that his office be placed on a <br /> salary basis and that he was requesting the Finance Committee to meet with <br /> the Clerk and present their recommendations to the Board for salaries. <br /> Chairman Dotterer appointed Commissioner McLeod to <br /> investigate the advisability of appointing a County wide building inspector to <br /> serve along with the electrical inspector. <br />
