COCK 6 PAGE 361 <br /> Miss Mary Scott Gurley appeared before the Board and gave a <br /> report on the activities of the County Library. <br /> Mr. Nathan Crissman, Tax Collector, appeared before the Board <br /> and reported that his collections in June totaled $34,097.76 and that 90.5% of <br /> the levy had been collected. <br /> Upon motion of Commissioner Kelly, seconded by Commissioner <br /> Yow and unanimously adopted, the Board resolved to authorized the Tax Collector <br /> to purchase a calculating machine for his office. <br /> Mrs. Louise Dowdy, appeared before the Board and gave a report <br /> on the activities of the Health Department. She also presented the written report <br /> of Mr. Hugh Talley, the County Sanitarian. <br /> Mr. L. L. Beckham, Director, appeared before the Board and gave <br /> a report on the activities of the Sanford-Lee County Civil Defense Department. <br /> Mr. J. C. Eakes, Register of Deeds, appeared before the Board and <br /> gave a report on the activities of his office. <br /> Mr. William Gregson, Service Officer, appeared before the Board <br /> and gave the quarterly report on the activities of the Board of Veterans. <br /> Mr. W. A. Martin, Chairman of the Economic Opportunity Comm- <br /> ittee appeared before the Board and gave a report on the activities of his committee. <br /> Mr. W. A. Martin, Director of the Lee County Industrial Education <br /> Center appeared before the Board and requested that $4,500 of the capital outlay <br /> fund in the current appropriation be advanced at this time to allow the Board of <br /> Trustees to complete the renovation of the county home building. <br /> The written report of Sheriff D. F. Holder was presented to the <br /> Board. <br /> There was a discussion about mileage allowances but no formal action <br /> was taken. (G.S. 147-8) <br /> Commissioner McLeod reported that several reports were due from <br /> the West Sanford Rural Fire Department and the Cape Fear Rural Fire Department <br /> and the assistance checks were being withheld pending compliance by the departments. <br /> Upon motion of Commissioner McLeod, seconded by Commissioner <br /> Yow, the Board unanimously resolved to purchase a ventilating fan to be installed <br /> in the jail. <br /> Mr. E. M. Underwood, Jr. , reported that he had received an <br /> insurance policy for Workmen's Compensation coverage.
