The letter requested that
leaders in our community give prayful consideration to the conditions of colored persons
living in congested areas.
The Chairman advised the Board that the next item of business was the elec-
tion of two directors to the non-profit corporation which operates the Lee County
Hospital. The recommendations or nominations of the present Board of Directors were
read to the Board of Commissioners. Another nomination was made by a member of the
Board and then ballots were distributed and an election conducted. The Chairman tabulated
the votes and announced the results. Mr. Julian Causey and Mr. Clyde Rhyne received
a majority of votes cast and were declared duly elected to the position of Director to hold
office until December 31, 1971, or until their successors were duly elected.
Mr. Lettsinger of the Department of Community planning, appeared
before the Board and presented a draft copy of the Land Development Plan of Lee County.
Mr. Lettsinger advised the Board that the next project would be the Community Facilities
Plan.
There was a discussion about garbage dumps and land-field operations
but no formal action was taken.
The written request of Mr. T. K. Clark, Jr., of Route 7, Sanford,
for a refund for taxes paid in 1965 and 1966, was presented to the Board. It appeared
that Mr. Clark owned 42/100 of an acre and that through clerical error, this had been
listed as 42 acres and taxed accordingly. After consideration and deliberation by the
Board, Commissioner Yow moved the adoption of the following resolution:
WHEREAS, T. K. Clark, Jr., has made a
written request for refund for the reason that the taxes
were illegally levied and assessed upon his property;
AND WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners for
Lee County feels the refund of such taxes is proper;
NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS FOR LEE COUNTY, that the
Tax Collector is authorized and empowered to remit and re-
fund the sum of $8.37 for 1965 taxes and $9. 89 for 1966
taxes.
Commissioner White seconded the motion and upon a roll call vote, it
was unanimously adopted, as follows:
AYE: McLeod, White, Wicker, Yow and Dotterer
NO: None
Upon motion of Commissioner Wicker, seconded by Commissioner
White, it was unanimously RESOLVED to appoint the following named persons to the
Lee County Parks and Recreation Advisory Commission, namely:
1.
