At 3:00 o'clock p. m. , in accordance with the public notice and advertisement, the Commissioners adjourned and subscribed and took the oath as members of the Lee County Board of Equalization and Review, before Sion H. Kelly, Clerk of the Superior Court andchposited their oath with the Clerk of the Board of Commissioners as required by law. Following the completion of their duties as the Lee County Board of Equalization and Review, the Commissioners reconvened with members present and Chairman John E. Reep, Administrator of the Lee County Hospital, to the effect that the Board of Directors of the County Hospital recommended that an additional 20 x 150 strip be added to the area allotted to the exchange with the Sanford Surgical Clinic. Upon motion of Commissioner Wicker, seconded by Commissioner White, and unanimously adopted, it was resolved to approve theexchange on that basis. Commissioner Wicker presented to the Board a letter from Mr. O. F. Patterson, advising the Board of Commissioners that the West Sanford Fire Department wasnow inactive. Commissioner Wicker was authorized to talk with the Cumnock- West Sanford and Tramway Fire Departments' about continuing to serve this area with fire protection. Upon motion of Commissioner White, seconded by Commissioner McLeod, and unanimously adopted, it was RESOLVED)to authorize the use of the County Courtroom by the League of Women Voters on April 23rd, 1968. It was reported to the Board a new employee had been hired to work in the Veterans' Service office and it was authorized to pay her on the basis of the appropriation for Veterans' Affairs currently in force and effect. A compilation of the expense of operating county automobiles was presented to the Board and distributedfor their study. Upon motion of Commissioner Yew, seconded by Commissioner Wicker, and duly adopted upon a vote, Deputy Currin's salary was set at $425.00 per month, effective immediately. Upon motion of Commissioner McLeod, seconded by Commissioner White, and unanimously adopted upon a vote, it was RESOLVED to pay. the current bills as tabulated by the County Accountant. Upon motion of Commissioner White, seconded by Commissioner Yow and unanimously adopted, Mr. Hugh Brewer,. the Superintendent of the Buildings and Grounds, was authorized to pave the area leading to the boiler room entrance at the County Jail. / Chairman announced to the Board that there would be a meeting of V/ the local Government Study Commission on April 5, in Fayetteville, to which all members of the Board had been invited.
