BOOK 7 PA414 <br />FA <br />The written report of the Chairman of the Agricultural Extension Service was <br />presented to the Board. <br />The Chairman advised the Board of the meeting of the Board of Directors <br />of the North Carolina Association of County Commissioners and of the school for <br />County Commissioners to be held at Chapel Hill on Jamary 14 and 15. <br />There was a discussion about the bills for ambulance services and the <br />current collection practices. <br />J. Chandler Eakes, Register of Deeds, appeared before the Board. After <br />discussion it was resolved to set the charge for use of the Zerox machine located <br />in the Register of Deeds office at the rate of 25¢ a sheet. <br />The Chairman read to the Board a letter from Superintendent Hockaday of <br />the Sanford City Board of Education, relative to the cost of the repairs of the boiler <br />at the McIver School in East Sanford Township. <br />The Chairman read to the Board a letter received from Dr. N.. Stratus of <br />the N.. C. Mental Health Department relative to the meeting between the Lee County <br />and Harnett County Board-of Commissioners. <br />Chairman reported he had received a letter from Mr. Cauldwell with respect <br />to the modification of the county personnel pay plan and that the request for modifica- <br />tion would be presented to the State Personnel Board for consideration. <br />The meeting was recessed for lunch at 12:00 o'clock noon. <br />The meeting reconvened at 2:00 o'clock P. M. with all members present. <br />Chairman John E.. Dotterer presided and the following business was transacted: <br />Mrs. R. G. G:utherie' of Sanford appeared before the Board and discussed <br />County wide zoning. <br />Mr. T. T. Hayes, Jr. of the architectural firm of Hayes, Howel & Associates, <br />Southern Pines, North Carolina, appeared before the'.Board and reviewed the alternates <br />he had prepared in connection with the bids for tl-e renovation of the wing of the <br />courthouse into a courtroom. <br /> <br />A delegation from the Sheltered Work. Shop appeared before the Board and <br />presented a program, illustrated the work carried on by this organization. - Several <br />of the delegation spoke of the financial needs of the organization and the necessity <br />for assistance in order for the Sheltered Work Shop program to be continued in Lee <br />County. Upon a motion made, seconded and unanimously adopted, it was resolved <br />to appropriate the sum of $3,000.00 from the unappropriated surplus in the general <br />fund to the welfare fund for the purpose of carrying on a Sheltered Work Shop program <br />in Lee County. Messrs. Joyce,, White, T. Wicker, G. Wicker and Dotterer all voted <br />for the motion and no one voted against it. <br />Upon motion made, seconded and unanimously adopted, it was resolved to <br />pay Mr. Leon Parrish the sum of $15.00 for two-days duty as a juror from the general <br />fund. Messrs. Joyce,. White, T.. Wicker, G.. Wicker and Dotterer all voted for the <br />motion and no one voted against it. <br />Mr. Ben Brooks, Superintendent and Mr. J. Glenn Edwards, Chairman, of the <br />Lee County Board of Education appeared before the Board and requested the Board of <br />Commissioners levy a tax to pay a supplement to teachers in the Lee County Board <br />of Education Administrative unit. Upon motion of Commissioner White, seconded by <br />Commissioner Joyce, it was unanimously resolved to refer consideration of this matter <br />to the finance committee. Upon motion of Commissioner Joyce, seconded by <br />Commissioner White, it was unanimously resolved to invite the Lee County Board of <br />Education and the Sanford City Board of Education to meet with the Board of Commis- <br />sioners on Monday, January 20, 1969, at10:00 o'clock A. M. to discuss merging the <br />school Administrative units. <br />- 3 <br />
