G " .
BOOK 7 PAOf 322
M
The County Attorney presented a map showing the area to be deeded to
the county in the parking lot building. He was instructed to prepare a deed in
accordance with the map and to have the deed recorded after it was executed.
The Clerk reported he had given notice to Dr. Cade Covington that the
County would terminate its lease on the building on Main Street in Jonesboro
Heights on March 31, 1969.
Chairman Dotterer reported the Sandhills Community Action Program
(SCAP) would meet in Southern Piro s on Tuesday, February 11, 1969.
The written request of David Hobson for a tax refund was presented to
the Board. The Tax Supervisor reported the property had been double listed and
both taxes paid. Commissioner F. D. Wicker moved that the Tax Collector be
authorized and directed to pay Mr. Hobson the sum of $37.28 since the additional
taxing was caused by clerical error. Commissioner G. A. Wicker seconded the
motion. Upon a roll call vote, Messrs. Joyce, White, F. Wicker, G. Wicker, and
Dotterer voted for it and no one voted against it.
Mr. J. Chandler Eakes, Register of Deeds appeared before the Board and
reported on the activities of his office.
Commissioner Joyce presented a questionnaire from the Political Action
Committee of the N. C. Association of County Commissioners. The Boards views
on the questions presented were determined and recorded.
Mr. John E. Piland, District Extension Chairman, and Mr. Tom Haislip,
County Extension Chairman, appeared before the Board and recommended the
employment of Mr. John Van Hall as Assistant Agricultural Agent. After discussion
by the Board, action on the employment was deferred until later in the session upon
motion of Commissioner G. Wicker, seconded and duly adopted.
Mr. J. Fletcher Rosser, Chairman, and Mr. Hubert Waddell, Vice-
Chairman, of the Lee County Good Neighbor Council, appeared before the Board
and presented job descriptions and other material pertaining to their request for
full time salaried employees.
Mr. John McPhaul, City Executive of Southern National Bank of North
Carolina, appeared before the Board and explained the procedure and basis on which
his bank would handle tax payments under their master charge credit card plan.
Chairman Dotterer reported that the Office of Economic Opportunity had
designated the Sandhills Community Action Program as its official agency in this
County.
The written report of the County Agricultural Extension Agent and the
County Home Economist were presented to the Board.
Chairman Dotterer reported the insurance on the ambulance vehicles was
being changed to a new company since the present carrier had refused to renew.
The written report of the Building and Electrical Inspector was presented
to the Board.
The meeting on the question of merger of the school units was discussed.
Commissioner F. D. Wicker moved that the Board request that the two school
boards come up with a merger plan by September 1, 1969, looking toward a subse-
quent bond issue and also to request the Boards to send a written progress report
monthly. Commissioner Joyce seconded the motion and upon a vote, it was
unanimously adopted.
- 3 -
