~Val <br />boon 7 pau 331 <br />2 <br />Mr. Nathan D. Crissman, Tax Collector, appeared before the Board and <br />presented a written report of his collections during the preceding month. <br />Mr. Tom Haislip, County Extension Chairman, appeared before the Board <br />and presented a written report on the activities of the Extension Department during <br />the month of February. Commissioner White moved that the following persons <br />be named to the Extension Department Advisory Board: Mrs. C. N.. Castleberry, Sr., <br />Mrs. Chloe Sloan, Mrs. M. E. McCoy, Mr. Roger Thomas, Mr. Frank Wicker, <br />and Mr. L. G. Hall. Mr. Joyce seconded the motion and upon a vote, the appoint- <br />ments were unanimously approved. <br />Dr. James H. Byerly, Medical Examiner for Lee County, appeared before <br />the Board and requested that action be taken to prevent the re-establishment of <br />office of Coroner in Lee County. Senator W.. W.. Staton was present at the invitation <br />of the Board and advised the Board he would make investigation about the possibility <br />of exempting Lee County from that feature of Chapter 1154 of the 1967 Session Laws <br />and would report his findings to the Board. <br />Senator Staton reviewed with the Board local option sales tax, tobacco tax <br />proposals and other legislation which affected county operations. <br />Mr. J.. Chandler Eakes, Register of Deeds, appeared before the Board and was <br />authorized to negotiate with the Health Department for reproducing death and birth <br />certificates at 10¢ per copy on the Xerox machine presently situated in his office. <br />The meeting recessed for ]ui-ch at 12:20 o'clock P.M. <br />The meeting reconvened at 2:00 o'clock P. M. with all Commissioners present. <br />Vice Chairman Franklin D. Wicker presided and the following business was transacted: <br />Mr. Sion H. Kelly, Clerk Superior Court, appeared before the Board and pre- <br />sented the recommended salary ranges for the positions in his office and requested <br />the approval by the Board of Commissioners. Upon motion of Commissioner Joyce, <br />seconded by Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker, the following salary ranges for the <br />positions indicated were approved: <br />Assistant Clerk - $4380 to $5556 <br />Accounting Clerk - $4380 - $ 5556 <br />Deputy Clerk - $3804 - $4812 <br />The vote on said motion was unanimous. <br />A representative of the American Seating Company appeared before the Board <br />and distributed literature pertaining to courtroom furniture. Commissioners A. E. <br />White and Gordon A. Wicker were appointed as a committee to meet with representa- <br />tives of L.. P.. Cox Company to determine the space available for spectator seating <br />and for court personnel. <br />Mr. D. D. Tingen a representative of Otis Elevator Company appeared before <br />the Board and explained the terms under which his company would provide maintenance <br />for either the passenger or freight elevator or both. Upon motion of Commissioner <br />White seconded by Commissioner Joyce and unanimously adopted upon a vote, it was re- <br />solved to contract with the Otis Elevator Company to provide maintenance on the <br />passenger elevator in the county office building. <br />The minutes for the meeting held on February 3, 17 and 24, 1969, were <br />approved and ordered recorded. <br />-2 - <br />
