Joyce, seconded <br />by Commissioner Gordon A. Commissioner Franklin D. Wicker moved that in view <br />of the pressing need to open the Courtroom for business, and con- <br />sidering the fact that Dixie Equipment Company had bid upon the <br />entire project and could deliver merchandise of the quality re- <br />quested, it was decided to award the contract to Dixie Equipment <br />Company and to select the alternate which provides for all uphol- <br />stered auditorium type seats for the total price of $7,327.85. <br />The County Accountant was instructed to pay the statement upon <br />completion of the work within the fifteen day period to take advan- <br />tage of the $150.00 discount. <br />Commissioner Joyce seconded the motion and upon a roll <br />call vote, it was unanimously adopted. Messrs. Joyce, White, <br />F. Wicker, G. Wicker and Dotterer, all voted for the motion and no <br />one voted against it. <br />The Board discussed House Bill No. 881, presently <br />pending in the General Assembly of North Carolina, which would <br />provide that the County Treasurer wouldno longer serveas Treas- <br />urer of County School funds. The Board, upon motion made, seconded <br />and duly adopted, resolved to oppose the passage of such bill and <br />instructed the Clerk to notify the Senator and Representative <br />from the Districts embracing Lee County, to this effect. <br />The Board discussed the sales tax bills presently <br />pending in the General Assembly. Even though local Legislation <br />has been introduced for a sales tax bill in Lee County, the Board <br />resolved thatit favors a Statewide sales tax bill.with per capita <br />distribution as is specified in House Bill No. 332-Senate Bill No. <br />258, which is commonly known as the Elliott Bill. The Clerk was <br />instructed to advise the Representative and Senator from Lee County <br />to this effect. <br />Page Two <br />
