The Board then considered the budget estimates <br />and reviewed in detail many of the departmental requests. <br />Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker requested that <br />the minutes reflect that he is against opening a branch library <br />in the Jonesboro Heights section at this time, not because he does'nt <br />want to see a branch library in that section, but because of more <br />pressing financial needs for other programs at this time. <br />Commissioner White moved that the County enter <br />into a contract with the Sanford-Lee County Rescue Squad for <br />the operation of the Ambulance Service, since this method was <br />the most economically feasible means of operation. <br />Commissioner Joyce seconded the motion and upon <br />a vote it was unanimously adopted. <br />Commissioner White moved the adoption of the <br />following: <br />WHEREAS, the Board of Commissioners <br />has considered the various items for the budget <br />estimate for the fiscal year July 1, 1969 <br />through June 30, 1970; <br />NOW THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED by the <br />Board of Commissioners for Lee County, that said <br />budget estimate for the expenses of the operation <br />of the County of Lee and its various agencies and <br />departments for the fiscal year July 1, 1969, <br />through June 30, 1970, be and the same is hereby <br />tentatively adopted as the budget of Lee County <br />for said fiscal year; and the tax rate for said <br />County of Lee be and the same is hereby tentatively <br />fixed and established at $1.55 for each $100.00 <br />valuation of the taxable property for the fiscal <br />year 1969=70. <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that said budget be <br />filed and lie on thetable in the office of the <br />Clerk of the Board of Commissioners for Lee County <br />for at least twenty (20) days for public inspection <br />and that a summary of said budget or notice of <br />filing of said budget in the office of the Clerk <br />to the Board of Commissioners be published in The <br />Sanford Daily Herald at least twenty (20) days <br />before it is finally adopted as the budget for the <br />fiscal year 1969-70. <br />Commissioner Joyce seconded the motion and it <br />was unanimously adopted by a roll call vote as follows: <br />AYE: <br />and Gordon A.
