. <br />BOOK 7 PAGE394 <br />Mr. Scott Swindell, Director of the Sanford Chamber of <br />Commerce, appeared before the Board and requested financial assistance <br />in installing a water line at the Castleberry Warehouse on the Jonesboro- <br />Lemon Springs Highway to assist in attracting industry. No formal action <br />was taken at this time. <br />Mr. Steve Gunter, President of the Sanford Junior Chamber <br />of Commerce, appeared before the Board and requested permission to erect <br />a freedom wall on the Courthouse lawn. This wall would have bronze plaques <br />with the names of deceased veterans from Lee County and would be landscaped. <br />Upon motion of Commissioner Franklin D. Wicker, seconded by Commissioner <br />Perry White, permission was granted for the erection of the memorial on the <br />Courthouse lawn. <br />Chairman Dotterer read a letter received from Governor Robert <br />W. Scott, concerning the food assistance program. <br />The written report of the Chairman of the Agricultural Extension <br />Service, on the activities of his agency was presented to the Board. <br />The written report of the Sheriff on the activities of his department <br />for the preceding month was presented to the Board. <br />The Chairman reported that the State Alcoholic Beverage Control <br />authorities had advised the County that the Short Shop.on Woodland Avenue <br />and Norman Abrams on Garden Street, had applied for beer permit. <br />The written report of Nathan Crissman, County Tax Collector, <br />was presented to the Board. <br />The Chairman reported that the Civil Defense Department had <br />received awards of special merit for its contributions in Community Shelter <br />Plan, Shelter Management Training and in the Shelter Stocking Program. <br />The written report of the County Electrical Inspector was presented <br />to the Board and reviewed. The Board directed that the Electrical Inspector <br />issue his permits for cash only and not extend credit to other than a County Agency <br />or unit. <br />Chairman Dotterer announced that the recommendations of the <br />County Planning Department about housing regulations had been received and <br />would be considered at a later meeting. <br />Chairman Dotterer reported to the Board on meeting with the <br />representatives of the Department of Local Affairs. <br />Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker reported on his meeting with <br />the Division of Law and Order of the Department of Local Affairs and advised the <br />Board that Commissioner Franklin D. Wicker is the voting member from Lee <br />County and Alderman B. E. Kelly is the alternate member. <br />Commissioner Franklin D. Wicker was authorized to prepare a <br />list of names to constitute an advisory committee to assist these men. <br />Dr. Charles Edrington has indicated that he would have to resign <br />from the Comprehensive Planning Council and Commissioner Perry White was <br />authorized to find a member of the Deikal Society who would be willing to serve <br />in this capacity. <br />Page 3 <br />
