BOOK 7 PACE 403 <br />Mr. Gordon Ross, of the Sanford Jaycees, appeared before <br />the Board and invited the Commissioners to attend the Distinguished Service <br />Awards Banquet, to be held by the Sanford Jaycees, at the Elks Club, on <br />Thursday, January 22nd, 1970. <br />Mr. Douglas Johnson, Mr. John McPhaul, Mr. Bill Smith, <br />Mr. Sion H. Kelly, and Mr. Rex McLeod, appeared before the Board on <br />behalf of the Youth Development Commission. Mr. Johnson. servedas spokesman <br />and stated to the Board that the State of North Carolina was considering establish- <br />ment of a Community Service Center in Lee County because of the activities of <br />the County through its Youth Development Commission and requested that office <br />space be made available for such a center. <br />Commissioner A. E. White moved that the County make available <br />approximately 5, 000 square feet of office space for such project and the Clerk be <br />authorized to furnish the Youth Development Commission.with a letter to that <br />effect for this purpose. Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker seconded the motioneand <br />upon a vote it was unanimously adopted. <br />The Chairman informed the Board that they had been invited to <br />attend an Industrial Civil Defense seminar to be held on Monday, March 9, 1970, <br />at the Holiday Inn in Sanford. <br />The Chairman discussed with the Board, the reply received with <br />respect to the County's application for funds for planning to the jail. Commissioner <br />A. E. White moved that the Chairman be authorized to make a new application <br />for funds for planning assistance to.the-jail : Commissioner Franklin D. Wicker <br />seconded the motion and upon a vot e it was unanimously adopted. <br />Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker reported that the Welfare Depart- <br />ment was unable to find a position for employment for Mrs. Mildred Gaster. <br />Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker reported on a meeting of the <br />Law and Order Committee held in Fayetteville, North Carolina. <br />The minutes of the Regular Meeting held on Monday, January 5th, <br />were approved and ordered recorded. <br />The Chairman distributed a copy of the report of cash balances <br />showing the distribution of County funds in the three local Banks and two local <br />Savings & Loan Associations. <br />There being no further business to come before the meeting, it <br />was adjourned isine die. <br />John E.
