BOOK ~ PACE 4s
Mr. Nathan Crissman, Tax Collector, appeared before the Board and
presented a report of his collections for the preceding month.
Mr. J. Chandler Eakes, Register of Deeds, appeared before the Board
and reviewed fees collected by his office. Mr: Eakes requested permission to
transfer the sum of $1, 000.00 from the stationery line item to the salary fund
line item within the budget appropriation for his office, for the purpose of
employing extra help. Commissioner Perry White moved that such transfer be
authorized and approved. Commissioner A. E. White seconded the motion and upon
a vote, it was unanimously adopted. Mr. Eakes requested the Board appoint a
committee to advise him on the standard of operations desired in the Register of
Deeds Office. The Board concluded it-would be advisable that the Advisory
Committee consist of one Commissioner and two members of the local Bar
Association. No appointments were made at this meeting.
Mr. James L. Clark, Tax Supervisor, appeared before the Board and
presented the written request of Riddick Plumbing Company for refund of taxes
in the amount of $45.36 for 1968 and 1969 which overpayment resulted from double
listing of the same property. Mr. Clark verified that he had examined the tax
records and the property was in fact, double listed and had been paid and that the
proper request for refund in writing had been filed and that a refund would be in
order in this matter. Commissioner A. E. White moved the adoption of the follow-
ing resolution:
Whereas the property of Riddick Plumbing Company has been double
listed on the tax records of Lee County for the years 1968 and 1969 and whereas
Riddick Plumbing Company has paid both of the tax bills on said property and has,
within two years, presented a written request for refund of said taxes.
Now, therefore, be it resolved by the Board of Commissioners for the
County of Lee that the Tax Collector be, and he is hereby authorized, to refund
to Riddick Plumbing Company the sum of $45. 36 representing payment of $22.68
for 1968 and a payment of $22. 68 for the year 1969.
Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker seconded the motion and upon a roll
call vote the Ayes and Nays were as follows:
AYES: A. E. White, Perry White, Franklin D. Wicker, Gordon A.
Wicker and John E. Dotterer.
NAYS: None
The Chairman thereupon dechred the motion carried and the resolution
adopted.
The written report Agricultural Extension Service was presented to the
Board and discussed.
The Chairman called the Board's attention to the recent memorandum
from the Institute of Government, relative to changing compensation of Boards of
Commissioners pursuant to General Statute 153-13. The matter was discussed
but no formal action was taken.
The Chairman reported that the appraisal report on the property to be
acquired by the Central Carolina Technical Institute had been received. The Board
reviewed the appraisal and directed that a copy be forwarded to the Institute for
its consideration.
- 2 -
