Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker seconded <br />the motion and upon a vote it was unanimously resolved to appoint Mrs. Beatrice <br />C. Fields as County Accountant. <br />The Chairman then asked for the appointment of a Tax Collector. <br />Commissioner William H. Cooper moved that Mr. Nathan Crissman be appointed <br />Tax Collector. Commissioner Gordon A.. Wicker seconded the mot ion and upon <br />a vote it was unanimously adopted. <br />The Chairman stated that Mr. Jimmy L. Love, currently serving <br />as Tax Attorney and special County Attorney for Social Services matters, <br />and.dpon motion of Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker, seconded by Commissioner <br />J. Eugene Rogers, it was unanimously RESOLVED to appoint Mr. Love to <br />serve as Tax Attorney and special County Attorney for the Department of Social <br />Services. <br />Chairman Wicker then made the following assignments of areas of <br />responsibility: <br />Fire Commissioner <br />Gordon Wicker <br />Roads Commissioner <br />William H. Cooper <br />The Commissioners then considered the holidays schedule and upon <br />motion made, seconded and unanimously adopted, it was RESOLVED to observe <br />December 24th and 25th as the Christmas Holidays. <br />The Board authorized the sending of fruit baskets to each of the County <br />Employees and designated Commissioner Gordon A. Wicker to be in charge of <br />administering this program and authorized the expenditure in an amount not to <br />exceed $6. 00 per basket. <br />Mr. Orton J. Cameron appeared before the Board and presented a petition <br />requesting the closing of an unamed road running northwardly from Holiday Lake <br />Road, and after discussion and consideration, Commissioner William H. Cooper <br />moved the adoption of the following resolution: <br />WHEREAS W. R. Makepeace, Jr. and wife, and Dempsey <br />M. Jones and wife, as the sole abutting property owners have petitioned <br />the Board of County Commissioners to close an unnamed street <br />leading northward and abutting Lot Numbers 19, 20, 21, 22, 23 and <br />24, as shown on map of Holiday Lake, recorded in Map Book 8, page <br />11, Lee County Registry; AND WHEREAS, the provisions of G. S. <br />153-9 (17) require that notice of the meeting at which the closing <br />of said road is to be acted upon shall be published once a week for <br />four weeks in some newspaper published in the County; and <br />
