003 <br />O T Sloan Park Renovation Proiect — Renovation project is addressed in the 2017-2021 CIP for <br />upgrading the tennis courts, pools, parking lot and added soccer and lacrosse fields. The project is <br />scheduled for the 2018-19 fiscal year. It was noted the sidewalk project has been started near the high <br />school and O T Sloan Park. <br />Economic Development "Yellow Light" Issues of Concern — "Yellow Light" items discussed during a <br />recent presentation by McCullum Sweeney Consulting included the following items of interest for the <br />City/County. <br />• Property not under control of City/County <br />• Flood zone areas <br />• Small area zoned highway commercial <br />• Securing timber/mineral rights <br />• Stream crossings <br />• Rail crossings <br />• Visibility into Central Carolina Enterprise Park from US #1 <br />• Master plan not completed <br />• Less job growth over past 3 years — based on State average <br />• Education attainment (BS & higher degrees) <br />• Distance to major highways (40,85, 95) from industrial park <br />• Extending water/wastewater/fiber <br />Trash concerns in the City/County — Recently discussed in a Commissioners meeting. Prisoners do a <br />great job of cleaning the roadways but trash re -appears in a couple of days in some areas. Citizens <br />need to be encouraged to watch and report when they see trash being dumped (or tossed) from <br />vehicles. The City stated they also had trash issues inside the incorporated limits. It was suggested to <br />advertise penalties on local TV stations, radio stations, paper, city/county websites, and social media. <br />Training in the schools was also suggested so youth could discuss littering with parents. <br />Broadway Updates — Broadway Mayor Donald Andrews discussed the upcoming "Broadway Our Way" <br />scheduled for Saturday, April 161 and encouraged everyone to attend the day's activities. The Town of <br />Broadway is also looking into possibly relocating the Town Hall/Police Department. No plans at this <br />time for the vacated Wal Mart building that has left the town with no pharmacy. <br />Land Use Plan Update — Planning Director Marshall Downey stated he would be participating in a <br />conference call this afternoon (4/11) with the Joint Planning Commission in reference to the Land Use <br />Plan. <br />No date was discussed for the next joint meeting at this time. <br />The meeting adjourned at 1:12 p.m. <br />ATTEST: <br />Gaynell M.
