Pursuant to N.C. General Statute §153A-52.1, the Chair opened the floor for Public Comments. <br />The following signed up to speak and were allowed 3 minutes for comments: <br />1. Allen Longman, 205 Oakbranch Lane, Sanford <br />2. Dr. Joyce Hawkins, 426 Hawkinberry Lane, Sanford <br />3. Terica Luxton, 3616 Lee Avenue, Sanford <br />4. Debbie Hall, 957 Cumnock Road, Sanford <br />Commissioner Reives moved for the Board to move discussion on the Q <br />to this part of the meeting instead of at the end of the Agenda. Upon a va <br />follows: <br />Aye: Dalrymple, Frazier, Knecht, Oldham, Reives, Sloan, and Smith <br />Nay: None <br />ad water testing <br />results were as <br />s <br />The Chair ruled the motion had been adopted unanimou*. <br />County Manager John Crumpton stated 100 letters have:been received from interested property <br />owners for baseline water testing; 59 samples have been taken; .24, of these were from private wells. <br />The Health Department is waiting on sample results from 5 propertied:. ,Fourteen of the 23 private wells <br />conveyed an elevated level of Hexavalent Chromium. Twenty-one of it`W private wells conveyed an <br />elevated level of Vanadium. On February 11 th the Office of Environmentaland Epidemiological Branch <br />informed the health department they would na.hpnger be providing the recommendation not to drink <br />and/or cook with their well water. The $tom, rias indicated that DHHS is rescinding the <br />recommendation to affected Lee County residents reg0rdingpot to drink the well water. DHHS has <br />asked the Lee County Health Department to forward. the letter to the affected private well owners. Mr. <br />Crumpton stated a total of $6,100 in donations hat been received to assist with the purchase of water <br />filters. Duke Energy has paid for all water testing' and will no longer pay for additional testing. At a <br />previous meeting the Board directed any donations rr:eived would be used to provide bottled drinking <br />water for the Colon Road/Os'-o4 area. Commissioner Frazier asked if a filter unit could be placed at <br />one of the four sites tested with thebighest levels. County Attorney Kerry Self stated she had concerns <br />over which one is selected for the Alter. Commissioner Reives asked if the donations received could be <br />transferred to a non-profif`dWIza� ►proceed with buying bottled water and purchasing a water <br />filter. After further discussion, Commissioner Smith moved for the County Manager and staff to transfer <br />the donated funds to a non-profit:(FnvironmentalLEE) to place water filters on four wells and monitor to <br />see if the sys works. If the fili s do not work the money could be used for purchasing bottled <br />water. U tt} i, �e results were as follows: <br />z <br />Aye: Irymple, Frazier, Knecht, Oldham, Reives, Sloan, and Smith <br />Nay: done <br />The Chair ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />After further discussion, Commissioner Reives moved for the County to send the State's letter to <br />rescind the do -not -drink letter to the residents tested with the highest levels and to include a cover letter <br />stating the County was asked to send the letters out. Upon a vote, the results were as follows: <br />Aye: Dalrymple, Frazier, Knecht, Oldham, Reives, Sloan, and Smith <br />Nay: None <br />The Chair ruled the motion had been adopted unanimously. <br />2 <br />
