D. No citizen of Lee County may serve in more than two (2) appointed positions at <br />one time for which the Lee County Board of Commissioners is the appointing <br />authority. <br />E. Unless otherwise stated by Statute, or By -Laws, all terms of office where terms <br />of office are determined by the Board of County Commissioners, shall be three <br />(3) years. With three year terms, an individual would normally serve a <br />maximum of two (2) terms. An individual whose initial appointment is to fill an <br />unexpired term or an initial staggered term of less than three years shall be <br />eligible to serve the number of full-length terms other members are eligible to <br />serve unless prior to the time for reappointment that individual has already <br />served six consecutive years. If the Board of Commissioners is unable to <br />attract applicants for upcoming vacant positions or determines that an <br />individual's continued contributions is needed to maintain the effectiveness of a <br />board, commission, committee or authority, the Board may waive this policy. <br />F. Commissions, committees or organizations appointed for special ad hoc tasks <br />shall be exempt from this Policy. <br />G. All Board members shall remain current on their taxes or be subject to removal <br />from their appointment(s). <br />H. Immediate family members (i.e., parents, spouse, children, etc.) may not serve <br />on the same board, commission, committee or authority. <br />Section 2: Attendance Requirement: <br />Any member who fails to attend at least 75% of the regular meetings, except for excused <br />illness, or other extraordinary circumstances, of the commission, committee, board or authority <br />during any one calendar year period shall be removed from said commission, committee, board or <br />authority. Each commission, committee, board or authority is hereby empowered to define the <br />term "extraordinary circumstances" on a case-by-case basis and to excuse absences because of <br />illness and extraordinary circumstances. The Chairman of each commission, committee, board or <br />authority shall notify the Commissioners of any member whose absences exceed 25% of the <br />regular meetings. Members not meeting this 75% attendance requirement may be removed by <br />action of the Board of County Commissioners and replaced by another interested individual. <br />Section 3: Authority to Appoint and Remove: <br />Pursuant to NCGS §153A-76, the Board of Commissioners shall have the authority to <br />appoint and remove members of appointed boards, commissions, committees, or authorities, <br />unless such authority is prohibited by North Carolina state law or federal law. <br />
