Assistant to County Manager 014 <br />Department: Administration FLSA Status: Exempt <br />General Definition of Work <br />An employee in this class is responsible for conducting research and monitoring issues, tracking happenings within <br />the government that could affect the County. Duties include conducting both internal and external communications. <br />Assists in the preparation of studies, reports and proposals related to issues, projects and programs initiated by the <br />County Manager. The work is performed under the general direction of the County Manager and/or Assistant <br />County Manager. <br />Qualification Requirements <br />To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable an individual with disabilities to perform the <br />essential functions. <br />Essential Functions <br />Provides direction & policy interpretation for projects assigned by the County Manager. <br />Coordinates administrative issues and problems with regulatory agencies; and responds to public inquiries regarding <br />County programs and services. <br />Represent the County at forums and events. <br />May attend public meetings and forums to present the County's interests and positions on specific issues as assigned. <br />Performs and/or coordinates special projects. <br />Assists department heads and other elected or appointed officials. <br />Performs related work as assigned <br />Knowledge, Skills and Abilities <br />Working knowledge of the concepts, techniques, and resources applied in public sector administrative planning. <br />Working knowledge of statistical research and analysis. Ability to conceptualize issues and problems, assemble and <br />analyze pertinent data, and draw valid conclusions for effective policy and strategy recommendations. Ability to <br />communicate effectively in oral and written form. Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships <br />with County staff, other agency officials, and the public. <br />Education and Experience <br />Bachelor's degree in public administration, or related field and considerable experience in increasingly responsible <br />local government management, or, a master's degree in public administration or related field. or equivalent <br />combination of education and experience. <br />Physical Requirements <br />This is sedentary work requiring the exertion of up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and a negligible amount of <br />force frequently or constantly to move objects; work requires reaching, fingering, and repetitive motions; vocal <br />communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word, and conveying detailed <br />or important instructions to others accurately, loudly, or quickly; hearing is required to perceive information at normal <br />spoken word levels, and to receive detailed information through oral communications and/or to make fine distinctions <br />in sound; visual acuity is required for preparing and analyzing written or computer data, visual inspection involving <br />small defects and/or small parts, operation of machines, determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and <br />observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is not subject to adverse environmental conditions. <br />Special Requirements <br />Valid driver's license in the State of North Carolina. <br />Created: January 4, 2016 <br />
