051
LEE COUNTY
Committed Today for a Better Tomorrow
LEE COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
ITEM ABSTRACT ITEM NO. V. B.
Information
Meeting Date: January 4, 2016 XX Action Item
Consent Agenda
SUBJECT: Facility Needs Assessment — Lee County School System
DEPARTMENT: Administration / BOE
CONTACT PERSON: John Crumpton / Dr. Andy Bryan
REQUEST: Approval of Facility Needs Assessment for the Lee County
School System
SUMMARY: Every 5 years the Board of Education must submit a Facility
Needs Assessment to the Department of Public Instruction (State Board of Education). The report
is used by the State to assess project facility needs for the next 5-10 years, statewide and locally.
Since the County is required by State Statute to fund facility capital needs it is required that the
County approve the Assessment before it is forwarded to the State. The Lee County Board of
Education approved the Assessment at their December 8, 2015 meeting. The certification which is
approved by the Commissioners says that our signatures do "not necessarily constitute
endorsement or commitment to fund the Facility Needs Survey." The certification is a statement
that we have received the Assessment and have reviewed it, not endorsed it.
BUDGET IMPACT: The Assessment does not commit the County to funding any
of the projects mentioned in the Assessment. Our Capital Improvement Program (CIP) and the
annual budget make those commitments.
ATTACHMENT(S): (1) December 16th letter from Dr. Andy Bryan to John
Crumpton, and (2) 2015-16 DPI Facility Needs Survey
PUBLIC HEARING:
PRIOR BOARD ACTION:
No
Last approved in January 2011
RECOMMENDATION: Authorize Chairman and County Manager to sign the
Assessment on behalf of Lee County Government
